Featured: Fort Ord Trail Run (Monterey, CA)
The 14th annual Fort Ord Trail Run kicks off Saturday at Fort Ord National Monument in Monterey, California. The 50k race begins at 7:30 a.m., and competitors will have 8.5 hours to navigate a course featuring 4,300 feet of elevation gain and loss. A U.S. Army facility from 1917 to 1994 and designated as a national monument by President Obama in 2012, Fort Ord now features 86 miles of recreational trails for hikers, bikers and, of course, trail runners. During the race, participants can expect mostly rolling, non-technical terrain on a combination of single track, old military jeep roads and some sandy stretches. The 50k runners will have access to six fully stocked aid stations. In addition to the Fort Ord Trail Run, Inside Trail Running will also be hosting the Monterey Ultra 50-mile race at the same location. Check out the 2025 race video here.

Offering an ideal course and environment for runners tackling their first 100-miler or veterans looking to set a PR, Rocky Raccoon features soft, undulating, pine-covered trails, incredible aid stations and volunteer support, generous cutoff times and a fun, supportive atmosphere. The 100-mile runners who complete the five 20-mile loops in under 30 hours will earn a 2027 Western States Endurance Run qualifier. In addition to the 100-mile race, Rocky Raccoon also hosts a 100k. Featured: The Algonquin 50K (Pocomoke City, MD)
Runners not afraid of a little mud (or blood) will attempt to tackle the 10th annual Algonquin 50K on Saturday in Pocomoke City on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The popular 50k race takes competitors on a modified out-and-back course that is 95% trail through the Chesapeake Forest and Pocomoke State Forest. While the course isn’t too hilly or technical, runners should be prepared for wintry conditions and the potential for plenty of mud. The race kicks off at 7:30 a.m., and competitors will have 8 hours to complete the course for an official finish. The Algonquin 50K is a nonprofit trail race that aims to “promote, maintain and expand trail access on the Delmarva Peninsula.” Read more.
