The second weekend of July featured 48 North American ultramarathons on the UltraRunning Magazine race calendar. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we dive into results from Michigan, Colorado, Idaho and Oregon. Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend. Hardrock 100
We lead things off in Silverton, Colorado, where the Hardrock 100 saw 116 finishers out of 147 starters who completed the mountain 100-mile event in the San Juan Mountains. Courtney Dauwalter beat her previous record on the clockwise direction of the course, winning in a time of 26:03:10, taking almost 8 minutes off of her previous course record and placing fifth overall. Careth Arnold placed second woman overall in a time of 30:32:31, and was eighth overall. Tara Dower rounded out the podium in 33:02:04.
On the men’s side, Ludovic Pommeret of France cruised to victory, beating his previous course record in 21:11:36, taking almost 22 minutes off his previous record. Jimmy Elam cruised to second place in 23:48:56, and David Ayala finished in third in 24:28:17.

Beaverhead Endurance Runs
Heading over to Salmon, Idaho, the Beaverhead Endurance Runs 100k and 55k races saw 151 and 268 finishers, respectively. Mac Moss took home the win in the 100k, in a time of 11:17:26. Nathan Morgan placed second in 11:21:32, and Benjamin Drexler (11:55:09) claimed third.
On the women’s side, Katie Olwin cruised to a win in 13:28:57. Olwin came in eighth place overall. Jenna Maffey ran to an F2 and ninth overall finish in 13:48:07. Emily Harris was the third female finisher in 14:34:02.
JT Wynn won the 55k overall in 6:01:08, and was the first female. Amy Katz was second in the women’s race in 7:06:39 and fourth overall. Shea Coons was third in 7:34:45.
In the men’s race, Skip Volpert was first in 6:32:12 and second overall. In second, John Guthrie finished in 7:02:34 and third overall. Third was Reed Greeting, rounding out the men’s podium in 7:10:07 and placing fifth overall.

Siskiyou Out Back
Next up, we travel to Ashland, Oregon, for the legendary Siskiyou Out Back 100k and 50k, and debut Brink 100-miler. There were 194 runners who completed the 50k race, with top honors in the women’s contest going to Katie Falkenberg in 5:11:20. Falkenberg placed eighth overall. Elisabeth Phillips-Jones was the second female in 5:15:46. Emily Giesen (5:37:43) completed the women’s podium in third.
Eric Fykerun Jr. won the men’s race in 4:00:46. Brett Hornig (4:05:10) came in second, and Eric Neill snagged third (4:13:27).
In the 100k, Robert Ressl took home the win in the men’s race in 10:25:18. Dakota Buer was second in 10:30:06, and rounding out the podium was Ian Wildermuth just seconds behind in 10:30:25.
In the women’s 100k race, Annie Behrend finished in the top spot in 12:35:08. In second, Nicki Monical finished in a time of 13:15:35, and Kara Rawlings rounded out the podium in 13:53:29.
The debut Brink 100-mile event saw 23 finishers, with James Holk taking the men’s win in 20:59:36. Pavlina McGrady took the win for the women in 37:05:04.

Dirty Burg
Our final stop takes us to Belmont, Michigan, for the Dirty Burg 50k. There were 23 runners who reached the finish line in Saturday’s race, with the women’s win going to Finley Johnson in 5:32:34 and placing third overall. Margaret Jo Retsema followed in second in 6:23:30. Ashley Wroblewski raced to third (6:44:08).
Nicholas Hanson earned the men’s crown in 5:15:29. Nick Novitsky came in second in 5:20:30, and John Alberts (5:37:01) finished in third.
