The highly challenging and competitive 2026 Speedgoat Mountain Races by UTMB® 50k takes place Saturday, July 25, at Snowbird Ski Resort in Utah. Runners will set off at 6:30 a.m. and attempt to tackle one of the most demanding 50k races in the United States as they traverse the steep and technical trails of the Wasatch Mountain Range, climbing and descending 11,318 feet in under 13 hours. Featured: Burning River (Cuyahoga Falls, OH)
The Burning River Endurance Run & Relay returns to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, for its 20th anniversary. The popular 100-mile race, as well as the 50-mile distance, showcases the extensive northeast Ohio trail systems as runners journey through scenic Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Summit Metro Parks. On trail, runners can expect varied terrain, including flat sections on the towpath and lots of rolling single track through the parks, with creek crossings, rocks and roots, and the likelihood of heat and humidity. The 100-milers have 30 hours to finish the race (32 hours for early starters), with sub-24-hour finishers earning a special gold buckle. Check in on the live results on the Western Reserve Racing website.

Both races kick off at 8 a.m. Saturday and are run on a mostly flat 5k loop course featuring grassy trails along the lake, shaded single track through the woods and a small section of pavement. Last Person Standing runners will complete one 5k loop every hour on the hour until only one runner remains, while 50k competitors will see how fast they can complete 10 loops on the same course. Featured: The Squatchy Surprise (Millburn, NJ)
The Squatchy Surprise is a fun event with a twist on traditional fixed-time ultras. Runners can choose to sign up for 3, 6 or 12-hour races, but rather than doing the same loop over and over again, they’ll draw a colored golf ball before each lap to see which of the four different trail loops they’ll run next. Each loop ranges from 1-5 miles and varies in elevation gain and difficulty. On course, runners can expect a combination of hard-packed carriage trails as well as rocky and rooty technical single-track sections. This year’s “trail party” takes place at Summit Field in Millburn, New Jersey, moved from its traditional location at the reservation due to construction, with all races concluding at 7 p.m. Squatchy Surprise benefits the Bigger Than the Trail foundation, which uses trail running as a way to advocate for mental health. Featured: Buckin’ Hell (North Vancouver, BC)
The notoriously technical and difficult Buckin’ Hell returns to North Vancouver, British Columbia, for another season. Co-founded by Gary Robbins, the race features 2,600 meters of elevation gain and loss through the rugged North Shore Mountains. Runners will set off from Mount Seymour Resort, where they’ll immediately climb to the lower summit before bombing 1,200 meters downhill to the Seymour River, then have to climb all the way back up the other side of the mountain to the finish. To earn an official finish, runners must complete the course in under 11 hours. In addition to the 50k race, Buckin’ Hell also hosts a 35k event and a 1k kids race, where parents have the opportunity to support the Butterfly Support Network, a local organization that supports families dealing with pregnancy and infant loss. Learn more on the Buckin’ Hell race website.
