Featured: Dead Horse Ultra (Moab, UT)
The second event in the Triple Crown of Moab Series, the Dead Horse Ultra, includes 50-mile and 50k ultramarathon distances that take place at the Magnificent Seven trail system, a network of seven trails just north of Moab that link the upper and lower ends of Gemini Bridges Road. The popular event is known for epic single-track trails (mostly on technical slickrock), postcard views of the La Sal Mountains, Arches National Park and the Moab Valley, and great race organization. The 50-mile runners will set off in waves at 6 a.m. Saturday and have 12 hours and 45 minutes to tackle close to 5,000 feet of elevation gain and loss. The 50k participants start at 7 a.m. and must complete a course with 2,800 feet of vert in under 10 hours. Read more about the race here and watch this video for a glimpse into what runners will experience on course (and for a classic Cat Stevens tune).

During the event, participants will run around the ballfields at Lake Ballparks National on a mostly grass and trail course with approximately 413 feet of elevation gain and loss per loop. 100% of race profits benefit Kids’ Harbor Child Advocacy Center, whose mission is “to provide coordinated response, healing and prevention of child abuse.” More race info here.

This is a “no DNF” event that encourages runners to go as far as they can, regardless of the distance, and “where every mile matters.” Additional race highlights include a Friday potluck dinner, medals for all finishers and a Sunday hangout complete with live music and discounted drinks.
