We wrap up the month of September with 68 events on the UltraRunning Magazine race calendar. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we feature ultramarathon results from Utah, Virginia, California and Vermont. Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend. The Bear 100
A total of 251 of the 335 starters earned their Bear 100 buckles this weekend, completing the challenging course from Logan, Utah, to Fish Haven, Idaho in under 36 hours. In the men’s race, Mike Capri jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, winning in 18:34:50. The 2023 champion, Zachary Garner, was the second runner across the line in 19:27:58. Jose Cruz, 2024 Bear 100 winner, came in third (19:40:25). Sarah Humble ran the fifth-fastest female time in the race’s 27-year history (21:12:16) to earn the women’s win and a seventh overall finish. The 2023 Bear 100 winner and 2024 runner-up, Kathryn Graham, came in second (22:02:59). Codie Muthig (23:03:39) rounded out the women’s podium in third. Full results here.
Yeti 100 Mile Endurance Run
April Bailey raced to the overall victory at Saturday’s 10th annual Yeti 100 Mile Endurance Run in Abington, Virginia. Bailey improved on her two previous fourth-place Yeti performances by running the second-fastest women’s time ever (15:42:00) and finishing over an hour ahead of the nearest competitor. Megan Alvarado was the second female and fourth overall finisher in 18:14:05. Lindsay Kasow (19:41:55) took third and placed tenth overall. Wayne Capacillo won the men’s race and finished second overall in 16:44:24. Travis Ault was the second man across the line and third overall finisher (17:43:22). Travis Place snagged the final men’s podium spot in 18:23:29 (fifth overall). Full results here.
theMAMMOTH 200
There were 127 runners who lined up on Friday to try and complete the inaugural theMAMMOTH 200 in Mammoth Lakes, California. The 214-mile ultramarathon tested athletes with over 30,663 feet of elevation gain and loss on a single-loop course through the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. In the men’s race, Jimmy Elam engraved his name as the race’s first male finisher, completing the loop in 44 hours and 42 minutes. Rachel Entrekin was the first woman and second overall runner to complete the race, finishing just 2 hours behind Elam in 46 hours and 54 minutes. At the time of publishing, the majority of runners were still out on the course, but we do have results from a handful of finishers, including second-place male and third overall runner Edher Ramirez (51 hours and 46 minutes), third-place male and fourth overall finisher Max Jolliffe (55 hours and 28 minutes), and second female/fifth overall finisher Amber Weibel (55 hours and 42 minutes). Vermont 50
Our final stop takes us northeast to West Windsor, Vermont, for the 32nd running of the Vermont 50 (50-mile and 50k ultramarathons). Top honors in Sunday’s 50-mile women’s event went to Emily Dooley, who broke the tape in 8:47:20. Dooley placed fifth overall. Heidi Caldwell was the second female finisher in 9:23:21 (ninth overall). Ashley Hensel-Browning (9:37:36) completed the women’s podium in third. Sean MacDonald ran away from the field to take home the men’s title in 7:19:34. Andrew MacGibbon took second (8:38:42), and Alexander Boynton (8:41:44) came in third.
