Don Choi, a long-time postman from San Francisco, has been inducted into the American Ultrarunning Hall of Fame as its 20th member. Don is recognized as being “the father of the modern multi-day race.” He made a significant historic contribution to the sport of ultrarunning by bringing back the multi-day races after an absence of 75 years.

There is something magical happening in the woods in Appalachia – it’s part rebel, part genius, part unicorn and entirely full of heart. For those not in the know, Jason Green, founder of Yeti Trail Runners, has spent the last 10 years creating a trail running counterculture of sorts, and ultra events which are about as unorthodox as the reason Jason got into ultrarunning.

The inaugural Devil’s Gulch 36-miler gave me butterflies, which was a sign that I was in the right place at the right time. As the race began, the first two miles had me unsure of what I had signed up for. However, the next 22 miles would surely change my mind.
