In this week’s What’s Up in Ultra, we highlight events in Utah, Wisconsin, Arizona, Massachusetts and Ontario, Canada. Featured: Canyonlands Ultra (Moab, UT)
Triple Crown of Moab series kicks off with the 2025 Canyonlands Ultra (100k, 50-mile and 50k). All events start and finish at the Behind the Rocks trail area and take runners on a tour of some of Moab’s best trails that highlight the area’s diverse red rock terrain. On trail, runners can expect a mix of technical double-track and sandy washes with expansive views of the La Sal Mountains and surrounding canyons. The 50k runners will attempt to navigate close to 3,000 feet of vert, while 100k and 50-mile participants will run multiple-loop courses featuring over 7,800 feet of climbing in the 100k, and over 5,200 feet in the 50-miler. Featured: Door County Fall 50 (Sturgeon Bay, WI)
The Door County Fall 50 returns to Wisconsin for its 19th edition. The 50-mile road ultra marathon (solo and relay races) begins at the top of the Door Peninsula between Green Bay and Lake Michigan and takes runners down the scenic western shoreline all the way to Sturgeon Bay. Race highlights include vibrant fall colors from golden maple, birch and aspen trees that line the course, running through Peninsula State Park with views of the bay, lighthouse and rocky cliffs, passing by quaint Wisconsin waterfront villages, amazing volunteers offering support and encouragement at the nine fully-stocked aid stations and a lively finish line celebration with free beer, wine, soda and pizza. Featured: Javelina Jundred (Fountain Hills, AZ)
The 23rd annual Javelina Jundred takes place this weekend at McDowell Mountain Regional Park. As the OG costumed-themed 100-miler, Javelina is renowned for its fun atmosphere, epic dance parties, scenic desert trails and for attracting some of the best ultrarunners from around the globe to compete for their shot at Golden Tickets into the 2026 Western States Endurance Run (WSER). The 100-milers will set off on Saturday in two waves starting at 6 a.m., and will attempt to complete one 22.3-mile loop plus four 19.45-mile loops totaling 6,296 feet of elevation gain and loss. Runners who finish in under 30 hours will earn their 2026 WSER qualifiers, with the top two male and female finishers earning automatic bids into next summer’s race. Featured: Womp Romp (Hingham, MA)
The Womp Romp is back for its fifth season at the 3,526-acre Wompatuck State Park, just 35 minutes outside of Boston. The community-oriented event features a 50k ultramarathon as well as a 10-mile race. The 50k participants will have 9 hours to complete a three-loop course on a mixture of single-track, double-track and pavement, while enjoying the late October Massachusetts fall foliage and having support from three aid stations. Race proceeds are donated to charitable partners, including Friends of Wompatuck, Free to Run and Footprints Trail Camp. Read more.

Featured: The Bad Thing (Goderich, ON)
The ninth running of The Bad Thing trail race kicks off on Saturday, October 25, in Huron County, Ontario. Runners in the 50k race will run a point-to-point course that begins in Goderich and ends at the Auburn Riverside Retreat. Along the way, participants will follow the scenic Maitland Trail through Falls Reserve Conservation Area, where they’ll have to navigate 60% highly technical and challenging single-track trails, rocky and rooty double-track terrain, a few short road sections and close to 1,500 meters of climbs and descents.
