The second weekend of December featured 27 North American ultramarathons, including events in Virginia, Florida, California and Texas. Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend and be sure to check out all the race results as they roll in on our results page.

Hellgate 100k ++

The 2025 Hellgate 100k (66.6 miles) lived up to its reputation as being one of the country’s most grueling winter ultras, challenging runners with deep snow, slick footing and frigid temperatures as they traversed Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Despite the harsh conditions, an impressive 124 of the 143 starters earned an official finish. Top honors in the women’s race went to Lexi Delisle in 13:10:30. Isabella Poulos finished just behind in second (13:14:04). Rachel Doxey (13:49:18) snagged the final female podium spot in third. Brandon Fogarty was the first man to complete the point-to-point journey, winning in 11:10:46. Kevin McKenna ran to a second-place finish in 11:18:46. Aaron Slabach (11:25:05) came in third.

Daytona 100

Next up, we travel to the Sunshine State for the 11th annual Daytona 100, where runners took on flat, fast, paved road courses along Florida’s East Coast in 100-mile, 50-mile and 50k events. There were 141 runners who set out from Jacksonville Beach in Saturday’s 100-miler, aiming to reach Ponce Inlet Lighthouse within the 31-hour time limit. In the men’s race, both Oliver Bieser and Ivan Penalba Lopez ran under the previous course record, but it was Bieser who reached the finish line first in a blazing-fast time of 13:34:47. Penalba Lopez claimed second in 13:51:34, and Fred Soly (14:55:30) came in third. Nicole Coccia led the way on the women’s side, winning in 16:18:55 (the fourth-fastest women’s course time ever) and placing sixth overall. Caryn Lubetsky was the second woman and seventh overall finisher in 16:47:44. Suzi Swinehart (17:18:19) ran to third female and eighth place overall.

Emily Renner was the second runner across the line in 4:52:59. Marie VanZandt (5:09:16) ran to a third-place finish. Calvin Frink took the win in the men’s race and placed fourth overall in 5:21:44. I think it was in the low 20s. Not quite as cold as Bel Monte 2017. Looking back, I’m surprised we even got out of the car that morning. If I ever suggest we do a race again it will be somewhere warm :).
