On the last weekend of May in our Ultra Weekend Recap, we have results from timed events in California and Maryland, as well as a 50k in Canada and an announcement from Western States about the 2024 Golden Ticket races.
On Sunday, Western States announced that there will be seven Golden Ticket races where the top two male and female runners can earn a spot in the 2024 race:
France: CCC 100k – September 1
Virginia: Grindstone 100k – September 23
France: Nice Côte d’Azur 115k – September 30
Arizona: Javelina Jundred 100-miler – October 28
Thailand: Doi Inthanon Thailand 100-miler – December 8
California: Canyons 100k – April 27, 2024
Arizona: At the Black Canyon 100k in Mayer, Arizona, on February 10, 2024, the top three females and males will earn a spot into the 2024 Western States Endurance Run. Read more details here.
At the Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba, Canada, the Epic East Gate 50k took place on Saturday, May 27. Runners from nearby Winnipeg swept both the women’s and men’s podiums. Joanna Webb won the women’s race in 5 hours, 51 minutes and 10 seconds, Sherry Hnatiuk was second in 6 hours, 12 minutes and 17 seconds and Liona Kehler came in third in 6 hours, 51 minutes and 57 seconds. In the men’s contest, Aaron Webb won in 4 hours, 41 minutes and 46 seconds, with Adam Moore taking the runner-up slot in 5 hours and 27 seconds, and Corey Mohr rounding out the podium in 5 hours, 4 minutes and 51 seconds. At the time of publishing, we only had results for the 6 and 12-hour races for the Nanny Goat in Riverside, California. Sarah Tomal of La Mesa, California, won the 6-hour race outright with 38 miles. She was followed by Erin Cartaya out of Temecula, California, who came in second with 34 miles and Carol Clifford of Anaheim, California, who came in third with 30 miles. For the men, Chris Miramontes of Fontana, California, age 54, won with 37 miles. Seth Hubbell from Rancho Cucamonga, California, was second with 35 miles and John Tomal hailing from La Mesa took third with 31 miles. Full 6-hour results here.
Selina Nordberg, age 55, from La Habra won the 12-hour race with 61 miles. Stephanie Bangora of Canyon Lake, California, came in second with 55 miles and local runner Karla Soto ran 52 miles for third place Armando Alvarez, 61, from Brea, California, won for the men with 59 miles, Scott Holmstrom out of Corona, California, came in second with 57 miles and Rylan Reynolds rounded out the podium with 55 miles. There are also results for the Coalfields Backyard Ultra in Williamson, West Virginia, and the Cow Bone Trail Run 6/12/24-hour races in Sharpsburg, Maryland. More race results will be uploaded here.
