The first weekend of August saw 36 ultramarathons take place across North America. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we highlight results from California, Oregon, Wisconsin and Alberta, Canada. Be sure to check out all the results on the UltraRunning Magazine results page.
Angeles Crest 100
We begin in California’s San Gabriel Mountains for the point-to-point Angeles Crest 100. First run in 1986, AC100 is one of the original five 100-milers in the United States. In the men’s race, Max Jolliffe took the lead in the early miles and never looked back, winning in 21:23:43. Peter Davidson ran to second (22:10:35), and Ruperto Romero (22:18:25) rounded out the men’s podium in third. Jian Springer crossed the line first in the women’s race, winning in 25:57:05. Liz Clarke (29:12:55) took second, and Erin Hakim (30:24:11) came in third. Full results here.
Waldo 100k
We head up the West Coast to Willamette Pass ski area for one of UltraRunning Magazine’s Old School Ultras, the Waldo 100k. This year’s event had 135 runners complete the scenic course within the 18-hour cutoff time. First place in the women’s contest went to Missy Lotz in 12:28:11. Nu Ma finished 10 minutes back in second (12:38:30), and Heidi Rounds (12:57:56) came in third. Mario Mendoza Jr. earned the win in a highly competitive men’s race in 9:59:31. Robert Ressly placed second (10:07:11), and Eduardo Morales (10:10:56) finished third. Full results here. I’d also like to send a quick shout-out to my wife, Jennifer Dinan, for completing Waldo on Saturday, which was her first 100k race.

Badger Trail Races
Next, we travel to the Midwest and Belleville, Wisconsin, for the Badger Trail Races by Ten Junk Miles Racing. The 2025 event featured four ultramarathon races (100-mile, 100k, 50-mile and 50k) so we’re only listing the winners, but you can view the full results from every distance here. Martin Erl won the Badger 100 men’s competition in 14:42:46. Lindsay Phoenix finished first woman and fifth overall in 17:50:10. Top honors in the 100k distance went to first female Kimberley Huntley (12:27:48 and seventh place overall), and first male Brandon Murrell (10:29:29). Michael Braun won the 50-miler in a new course-record time of 6:26:06. Chelsey McKenna (9:32:53) finished first woman and ninth overall. Finally, in the 50k race, results show Kristin Zainer taking the women’s win and running to second overall in 4:16:38. Christopher Allen (3:59:35) led the way for the men.

We wrap things up north of the border in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, Canada for the 25th annual Canadian Death Race.
