The final weekend of July was jam-packed with exciting ultramarathon action throughout North America. Be sure to check out our complete list of results on the UltraRunning Magazine results page. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we highlight results from Utah, Minnesota, Ohio and Oregon.
Speedgoat 50k
We kick things off at Utah’s Snowbird Resort for the highly competitive and challenging Speedgoat Mountain Races by UTMB®. Top honors in the women’s contest went to Jennifer Lichter in a new course record time of 5:54:45. Lichter became the first woman in the race’s 18-year history to finish in under six hours. Emma Cook-Clarke was the second female finisher in 6:01:05. Grayson Murphy finished just behind in third (6:02:36). This year’s 50k men’s race saw an epic finish with Ryan Becker holding off a hard-charging Erik Sorenson to earn the victory. Becker crossed the line in 5:17:26, with Sorenson (5:17:32) finishing just 6 seconds back in second place. Anthony Williams (5:20:08) rounded out the men’s podium in third. Full results here.
Crazy Mountain 100
Our next stop takes us to Lennep, Montana for the Crazy Mountain 100 for the fourth running of this epic mountain ultra. The men’s race saw Brandon Benefield cross the line first to earn the title and course record in 20:41:51. Kris Tyson ran to second, and Peder Anderson came in third. Cassi Knight earned the women’s victory in 25:49:40. Jenna Bogue claimed second, and Dalton McCurdy was third. Full results here.
Burning River 100
In the Midwest, we travel to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, for the 19th running of the Burning River Endurance Run (100-mile and 50-mile ultramarathons). Saturday’s 100-mile women’s race was won by Megan Alvarado, who cruised to victory in 21:52:37 (seventh place overall). Katherine Reigstad (22:51:53) finished second female and tenth overall. Francesca Muccini completed the women’s podium in third (23:13:56). Alec Cline took control of the men’s race early on and never looked back, securing the win in 16:30:21. John Dragon finished runner-up in 16:49:25, and Matt Ramiller (18:16:32) snagged third. Full results of the 100-miler, as well as the “front half” and “back half” 50-mile races, can be found here.
Hood Hundred
We wrap things up in the shadows of Oregon’s tallest peak, Mount Hood, at the second running of the Hood Hundred. In the men’s race, Kevin Stewart established a new course mark to beat, winning in a speedy course-record time of 16:08:32. Connor Rosenblatt was the second male finisher in 16:25:48. Cody Priest (17:19:38) came in third. Erin Brunner set a new course record for the women on her way to taking the female title in 21:44:49. Jessie Goodall earned a second-place finish (22:00:18), and Melissa Flores (23:14:44) was third. Full results here.
