The ultramarathon action heated up this weekend with 52 races taking place across North America. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we feature results from Wisconsin, Oregon, California and Ohio.

MadCity Ultras

We kick things off in Madison, Wisconsin, for the USATF 50k Road National Championships hosted by MadCity Ultras. In the men’s race, Charlie Lawrence took home the title, clocking a blistering fast time of 2:49:01 and setting a new course record in the process. Jeffrey Seelaus ran his way to second (2:53:37), and Adam Vadeboncoeur (2:53:50) finished just 13 seconds later in third. Courtney Olsen snagged the victory in the women’s contest, placing tenth overall and setting a new female course mark in 3:16:44. Sophie Seward finished less than a minute back in second (3:17:34), and Lindsay Prescott (3:20:16) rounded out the podium in third.

MadCity Ultras also included a road 100k event. In the women’s 100k race, Amber Arvidson broke the tape in 8:17:16, placing her first female and third overall. Abby Omerza finished second woman (12:07:56), and Alison Vail (12:44:12) came in third. First place male honors went to Martin Erl (7:14:23). Garrett Nelson came in second (7:43:07), and Craig Mason (9:10:22) was third. Full results of both races here.

Gorge Waterfalls

Our next stop takes us to Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge for the Gorge Waterfalls (100k and 50k races). This year’s 100k race attracted speedsters from around the country vying for a chance to compete in the World Trail Championships in Canfranc-Pirineos, Spain, in September. The top two eligible male and female finishers earned a spot on the USA Long Trail Team. In the women’s race, Shea Aquilano set a new course record on her way to winning in 9:14:49. Jade Belzberg (9:27:39) ran to second, and Klaire Rhodes (9:34:25) was third. Former Western States Endurance Run winner Adam Peterman paced the way for the men, smashing the previous course record in a winning time of 7:37:50. Tracen Knopp earned a second-place finish in 7:43:37, and Philip Royer (7:57:14) ran his way to third.

Sunday’s 50k race saw more fast times, with Joshua Potvin taking the overall win and setting a new course record on the modern 50k course in 3:49:30. Liam Meirow finished second male (3:52:40), and Adam Loomis (4:07:38) placed third. Sarah Allaben crossed the line first in the women’s race with a winning time of 4:38:44. Taylor Bacon (4:46:25) was second, and Kristina Randrup (4:52:46) finished third. Full results of both distances here.

Lake Sonoma 50

Staying out west, we journey to Healdsburg, California, for the Lake Sonoma 50, where another stacked field of ultrarunners toed the line this weekend. In the men’s race, Stephen Kersh blazed his way to the win in 6:50:31. Ryan Raff claimed second (6:52:26), and Chris Myers (6:53:25) snagged the final podium spot in third. Tara Dower led the way in the female race, winning and taking sixth overall in 7:36:21. Jane Maus took second and ninth overall (7:54:54), and Robyn Mildren (8:07:16) finished third woman and tenth overall. Full results here.

Forget the PR Mohican 50k

Our final stop takes us to Loudonville, Ohio, for the 15th annual Forget the PR Mohican 50k. This year’s race had 141 finishers, with Lee Conner earning the women’s title in 5:39:40. Kathleen Tremblay was the second female to cross the line in 5:43:41, and Amelia Kvalheim (5:46:51) completed the podium in third. On the men’s side, Chad Trumbo added another dominant performance to his Mohican resume, winning the event for the sixth time in 4:24:26. Oren Dvorak finished second (4:26:00), and Hunter Ksenich (4:28:22) came in third. Full results here.

Other results from this weekend include: Diez Vista (Port Moody, BC), Oriflamme (Julian, CA), Walla Walla 6 Hour (Walla Walla, WA), Cottontail 6 & 12 Hour (Seattle, WA), Woodside Crossover (Woodside, CA), Serengeti Trail Races (Erda, UT), Whiskey Basin (Prescott, AZ), Quachita Trail 50 (Little Rock, AR), Kal-Haven Trail Run (Kalamazoo, MI), Desert Rats (Fruita, CO), and Lake McMurtry Run (Stillwater, OK).

Drew Dinan traded the tropics of the Florida Keys for the trails of Bend, OR. Once living the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle, working on fishing boats and owning only a single pair of flip flops, he now has way too many running shoes in his closet and never hears the end of it from his loving wife. He is on a constant quest to find the best happy hours, likes to complain when it’s cold outside, and one day hopes to travel the country writing reviews on chicken wings.
