The last weekend of March saw 28 races on the UltraRunning Magazine race calendar. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we feature results from Georgia, California, Alabama and Virginia.

Georgia Death Race

We kick things off in north Georgia’s Vogel State Park for the 13th running of the Georgia Death Race, where participants raced against the clock and the Grim Reaper while carrying a one-pound railroad spike that needed to be tossed into a casket at the finish line to earn an official finish. Four women cracked the top ten in this year’s event, led by Amy Ross-Johnson (13:58:14), who earned the women’s win (fifth overall) and became the first woman to complete the race in under 14 hours. Porter Burgess finished second and sixth overall (14:11:31), and Julija Soryte (14:31:17) took third and seventh overall. In the men’s race, Anthony Fagundes broke the tape, setting a new course record for the 74-mile course in an impressive 12:45:27. Ryan Clifford placed second (13:33:01), and Alec Cline (13:36:47) came in third. There were 154 runners who completed the race. Full results here.

Rattlesnake Dick

Our second stop takes us to Cool, California, for the second running of the Rattlesnake Dick 50k. There were 78 runners who toed the line on Saturday hoping to complete the out-and-back course and perhaps find Rattlesnake Dick’s stolen loot, rumored to be hidden in the nearby hills. While we can’t confirm any runners finished with gold bars stuffed in their packs, but we can report that Robert Ressl paced the way to victory in 4:17:06. Jacob Huston finished runner-up in 4:27:51, and Ray Avalos (4:32:04) claimed third. Katie Trent took the win in the women’s contest and set a new course record with a time of 5:40:05. Allison Anderson ran to second (6:12:56), and Lauren Watson (6:21:26) was third. Full results here.

Oak Mountain

Next, we travel to Pelham, Alabama, for the 24th running of the point-to-point Oak Mountain 50k. There were 117 runners who crossed the finish line at this year’s race, with Becca Murray leading the charge for the women, winning in 5:17:48 and finishing second overall. Ruth Warmack was hot on her heels, taking second and placing third overall (5:19:29). Jane Murawski (5:44:11) claimed the final podium spot and finished seventh overall. In the men’s contest, Cam Lecroy came out on top, winning in 5:14:50. Stephen Tidwell was second (5:31:24), and Zac Wilson (5:37:41) came in third. Full results here.

Hone Quarry Ultra

Our final stop takes us to the beautiful Shenandoah Valley and Dayton, Virginia, for the third annual Hone Quarry Ultra 40-miler. There were 86 runners who completed the rugged and challenging course under the 13-hour and 15-minute cutoff time, with Jaroslav Candler II securing the men’s title in 6:51:35. Joshua Thomas was the second male across the line in 7:08:12. Anthony Wolosik rounded out the men’s podium in third. Jessica Wingo (7:22:57) won the women’s race, finishing fourth overall and running the second-fastest course time ever. Molly Belk ran to second and seventh overall (7:47:58). Lexi Delisle (8:06:47) finished third and eighth overall. Full results here.

Other results from this weekend include: Enchanted Forest Ultra Run (Stratford, CT), Spring On The Trails Endurance Runs (Lagrangeville, NY), Schon Park 3/6/9 Endurance Runs (Glen Carbon, IL), and Bourbon Country 25K/50K (Shepherdsville, KY).
