Sponsored by HomeFed, the Official Host of the event, and in partnership with The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo, the event’s official beneficiary, the SLO Ultra will showcase a beautiful natural resource to runners and hikers alike for the first time on California’s incredible Central Coast. Wild Cherry Canyon is approximately 2,400 private acres located on the Pacific Ocean along the Central Coast, northwest of Avila Beach and south of San Luis Obispo. Additional surrounding private lands will also be included in this first ever ultra distance race for San Luis Obispo County, once again putting Race SLO Town on the map, attracting athletes from all over the country and beyond.

Registration is currently opened for the SLO Ultra, set for Saturday, September 10, 2016, featuring a 50 mile ultra race, marathon, half-marathon and 5 mile trail courses and is limited to only 900 runners overall (specific limits per distance). This unique trail event, to be run through the private Wild Cherry Canyon property, will sell out.

“The inaugural race will be a unique outdoor lovers event in breathtaking Wild Cherry Canyon, and all levels of both runners and hikers will appreciate the exclusive access to these trail courses as well as the post-race BBQ and free live bluegrass festival,” said Samantha Pruitt, Race SLO Founder & CEO. “We also are grateful to the generosity of HomeFed as our inaugural SLO Ultra host. We share the same long-term vision of allowing trail users of all types to be able to access this incredible property.”

“The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo’s slogan of ‘Saving Special Places’ really resonates with Race SLO, and thus, The Land Conservancy is a natural fit as beneficiary. Its work of conserving, caring and connecting people to nature while preserving open space for public use is invaluable to future generations,” added Pruitt.

In addition to the individual races on Saturday, September 10, there will be a live Bluegrass Festival free to the public and also fresh BBQ featuring Firestone Walker brews available for purchase to celebrate. The North Face gear will be the official participant swag along with race medals and awards for top three athletes overall in all races. The 50 mile race champions will also be awarded prize money.
