The last weekend of astronomical summer saw 64 ultramarathons take place across North America. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we highlight race results from Tennessee, California, Virginia and Idaho. Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend, and be sure to check out all the results on the UltraRunning Magazine results page.

The Barkley Fall Classic

We kick things off at the 12th annual Barkley Fall Classic, with no GPS, no drop bags, no poles and 50+ grueling kilometers through the steep, rugged and unforgiving Brushy Mountains in Tennessee’s Frozen Head State Park. The 2025 Barkley Fall Classic, hosted by the one and only Lazarus Lake, saw around 400 participants set off from the yellow gate to try and complete Laz’s insanely challenging course. Only 20 of those runners were able to complete the full 50k course and cross the finish line. Two women finished under the 13:20 cutoff time, including first-place female Demi Marcantonio (12:25:39) and runner-up Kelly Force (13:06:41). Frenchman Mathieu Blanchard was the first male finisher in 10:20:44. Ian Farris came in second (10:24:55), and Seth King (11:20:32) snagged third. Both Marcantonio and Blanchard earned an automatic entry into the 2026 Barkley Marathons. Full results here.

Mammoth Trail Fest

Next, we travel to Mammoth Lakes, California, for the highly competitive Mammoth Trail Fest 50k ultramarathon, where the top male and female runners competed for $9,000 in prize money ($1,500 to the winners). An impressive 633 runners completed “California’s highest race” on Saturday, paced by the men’s winner Chad Hall, who finished the tough mountain course in 4:07:38. Hall has now won the Mammoth Trail Fest 50k three times in the race’s four-year history. Samuel Ruffieux came in second (4:13:30), and Liam Flemming (4:16:40) ran to third. Clara Caspard won the women’s race and took home the top prize in a time of 5:03:55. Sarah Kushner placed second (5:08:09), and Paula Markel (5:11:34) claimed third. Full results here.

Grindstone Trail Running Festival

Heading to Virginia, we check in on the Grindstone Trail Running Festival by UTMB® (100-mile, 100k and 50k ultra distances. There were 194 runners who started the 100-mile event on Friday evening, with 109 completing the course under the 36-hour cutoff time. First place in the female division went to Isabelle Danforth in 26:36:23. Justine Koksal was the second woman across the line in 26:59:35. Celia Nalbach took third (27:34:01). Christopher Sobie broke the tape in the men’s contest, winning in 21:47:22. Yannick Bernard came in second (22:43:54), and Nick Luden (23:12:21) grabbed the final men’s podium spot in third.

Our final stop takes us to the beautiful and remote Salmon River Mountains outside of McCall, Idaho, for the 14th annual Idaho Mountain Trail Ultra Festival (IMTUF). This year’s 100-mile course (a 2026 Hardrock 100 qualifier) featured over 22,000 feet of climbs and descents and a 36-hour cutoff time. Top honors in the men’s race went to Mike Sidic with a winning time of 20:04:24. Mac Moss placed second (20:47:18), and Zachary Russell (20:54:42) took home third. Sarah Riordan completed the challenging course in 25:09:30 to earn the women’s title. Ginny Robbins (25:52:07) was second, and Alex Benjamin (27:00:14) rounded out the female podium in third.
