Ultra Weekend Recap number two is here, where we aim to showcase results from a handful of ultrarunning events all over North America. Think of it as a sister column to our midweek What’s Up In Ultra piece. We surely missed something, so please let us know what race you were at this past weekend and link to the results in the comments.
At the Hennepin Hundred, Jim Macaluso of Spring Grove, Illinois, won the race in 15 hours, 19 minutes and 56 seconds, the fifth-fastest time ever. Sam Skeels from Adrian, Michigan, was second place in 15 hours, 58 minutes and 6 seconds, and Hans Vanzanten was third in 16 hours, 23 minutes and 43 seconds. Mae Barker of Orange Park, Florida, claimed the women’s title in 19 hours, 21 minutes and 4 seconds, Carissa Laack out of Wausau, Wisconsin, was second in 19 hours, 45 minutes and 25 seconds, and Lily Medina from Oglesby, Illinois, was third in 19 hours, 50 minutes and 13 seconds.
Heather Proft from Shelbyville, Indiana, won the women’s 50-mile title in 8 hours, 20 minutes and 12 seconds, and Phil Young of Davenport, Iowa, took the overall in 5 hours, 41 minutes and 30 seconds. In the 50k, James Weston from Crown Point, Indiana won in 4 hours, 1 minute and 48 seconds, and Lindsey Roberts of Carbondale, Illinois, bested the women’s field while coming in second overall in 4 hours, 28 minutes and 35 seconds. In Abingdon, Virginia, at the Yeti 100 Mile Endurance Run Rebecca Joyner from Alto, Michigan, won in 19 hours, 55 minutes and 15 minutes, with Julia Lipeles of Jasper, Tennessee, in second at 20 hours, 24 minutes and 18 seconds, and Heather Gardiner out of Manteo, North Carolina, third in 21 hours, 16 minutes and 36 seconds. Lee Whitaker from Fort Mill, South Carolina, ran the fifth-fastest time in course history to take the title in 14 hours, 50 minutes and 5 seconds, with Keith Gruchacz of Greensboro, North Carolina, hot on his heels and finishing in the sixth-fastest time the course has seen of 15 hours, 8 minutes and 24 seconds. Matt Smith of San Antonio, Texas, was third in 16 hours, 50 minutes and 31 seconds. Full results here.
Arkansas Traveller was another 100-miler this weekend. Chas Kabanuck of Clovis, New Mexico, won the men’s race in 18 hours, 21 minutes and 21 seconds, with Chad Hetrick from Edmond, Oklahoma, not that far off in 18 hours, 39 minutes and 16 seconds, and John Muir based in Whitefish, Montana, rounding out the podium in 19 hours, 41 minutes and 29 seconds. Hometown favorite Laura Kearns of Little Rock, Arkansas, won the women’s race in 20 hours, 49 minutes and 51 seconds, with another Arkansas local, Lauren Sewell out of Siloam Springs, coming in second at 21 hours, 38 minutes and 27 seconds, and Amanda Lynch of Tulsa, Oklahoma, finishing third in 23 hours, 18 minutes and 23 seconds. At the 21st Annual Rock/Creek Stump Jump 50k Peter Kazery from Jackson, Mississippi, won in 5 hours, 7 minutes and 8 seconds, Jobie Scarborough of Pine Mountain, Georgia, was the runner-up just 50 seconds back in 5 hours, 7 minutes and 58 seconds, Benjamin Foote of Ooltewah, Tennessee, completed the podium in 5 hours, 10 minutes and 20 seconds.
Chattanooga, Tennessee, native Lea Mulligan won in 5 hours, 35 minutes and 46 seconds. Ciara Hotchkiss from Nashville came in second place in 5 hours, 59 minutes and 45 seconds, and Shannon Howell of Simpsonville, South Carolina, finished in third in 6 hours, 35 minutes and 23. Results here.

Mae Barker is the Hennepin Hundred women’s champ, finishing in 19:21:04. (There was an error in the original posting of the results which has since been corrected.)
