The third weekend in May saw 53 ultramarathons take place across North America, including featured events in Georgia, Florida, Colorado, and Utah. Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend, and be sure to check out our full list of results on the UltraRunning Magazine race calendar.
Cruel Jewel 100
We start things off in the Chattahoochee National Forest of the North Georgia Mountains for the Cruel Jewel 100 (100-mile and 50-mile races). The grueling 100-miler, a Western States 100 and Hardrock qualifier with a whopping 33,000 feet of elevation gain and loss, kicked off on Friday with Matt Pruitt taking the men’s race win in 27:31:11, Mark Sharp taking second male in 28:42:29 and Stan Fleming finishing third in 28:45:37. In the women’s race, Shannon Wheeler-Deboef finished first woman and second overall in 28:22:43. Lee Conner finished second in 33:27:10, while Iullia Maslo finished third in 34:40:28.
In Saturday’s 50-miler saw Adam Schwendt finish first male in 11:11:02, and Jane Murawski finished first female in 13:42:26.

Keys Ultras
Sailing down to Key West, Florida, we check in on results from the 17th running of the Keys Ultras (100-mile, 50-mile and 50k ultra events). The 100-mile participants set off in Key Largo on Saturday in a bid to run along the historic Overseas Highway all the way to the southernmost city in the Continental US First place in the 100-mile men’s contest went to Brett Sanborn in 14:21:41, with Alexander Thomas coming in second in 18:14:40. Third place went to Dan McHugh in 18:37:34. In the women’s race, Nicole Coccia took the win in 18:24:42. In second place, Line Caliskaner finished in 18:26:53 and Elizabeth Gallardo Hevia placed third in 19:31:51.
Other race distance winners included Ian Jensen finished first male in the 50-mile in 7:45:22, while Salud Cerruti finished first female and second overall in 8:08:23. Int he 50k, Whitney Dancaster took the female and overall win in 5:14:02, and Troy Bethune won for the men in 5:57:56.

Ram Party
We keep the party going in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the Ram Party Trail Runs (55-mile, 60k and 50k ultra distances), a weekend of trail running featuring the scenic trails of Rampart Reservoir in Woodland Park. Mackenzie Mau was the overall men’s winner of the 55-mile in 7:57:51, with Brennan Fife finishing second in 8:53:15. Michael Martinez rounded out the podium in 8:56:44. In the women’s race, Elena Orman finished first in 9:11:20, with Amber Hardwig coming in second in 10:22:28. Andrea Risi finished third in 11:47:37.
Other race distance winners included Lauren Puretz winning the women’s race in the 60k in 5:00:28, and Bradley Stroz winning for the men in 4:51:29. In the 50k, Ryan Sullivan finished first male in 3:10:57 and Nicole Hanson finished first female in 4:01:15.

Utah 115
Our final stop takes us to Utah for the first annual Utah 115. Created by the folks who put on the Grand to Grand Ultra stage race, this event covers some of the Grand to Grand course and includes harsh desert terrain. Race distances include 115 miles and 50 miles. Ellen Cheshire was the first-ever woman’s winner in 35:21:28. In second place, Mary Flinders came in with a time of 37:14:24, and third place went to Melissa Lewis in 37:45:16. In the men’s race, Andy Pearson took the win in 29:43:03, Dominic Grossman came in second in 32:50: 34 and Jason Renfro finished third in 36:15:32. Full list of results from all four events here.
