In beautiful Kelowna, British Columbia, at the Wild Horse Traverse 52k point-to-point ultra on Saturday, May 13, Joanna Brewer from Kamloops, British Columbia, took the win and clocked the second-fastest time the course has ever seen in 5 hours, 14 minutes and 38 seconds, behind only Ellie Greenwood’s win in 2018. Second place went to Jayda Jurome of Kelowna, British Columbia, in 5 hours, 29 minutes and 19 seconds, and third place was Jeanelle Hazlett out of Sechelt, British Columbia, in 5 hours, 30 minutes and 52 seconds. The men’s champion also clocked the second-fastest time in course history with the honors going to Simon Widmann of Surrey, British Columbia, in 4 hours, 22 minutes and 8 seconds. He won by nearly 30 minutes over Brad Goreski from Victoria, British Columbia, who finished in 4 hours, 50 minutes and 58 seconds. Rounding out the men’s podium was Skeets Morel hailing from Vernon, British Columbia, in 5 hours and 16 seconds. Check out the full results here.
At the Paiute Meadows Trail Run 50k in Susanville, California, on Saturday, Ashley Nordell from Sisters, Oregon, won the race outright in 4 hours, 49 minutes and 56 seconds. Nordell has been racing ultras for nearly 20 years now, and has amassed more than 75 finishes, not once finishing outside the top 10. Jennifer Rishel of Burney, California, was the second woman in 6 hours, 7 minutes and 6 seconds, and Kelly Fitch out of Meyers, California, came in third in 6 hours, 8 minutes and 18 seconds. Nick Affleck from Chico, California, won for the men in a time of 5 hours, 20 minutes and 50 seconds. Runner-up went to Luis Abundis from Gardnerville, Nevada, in 5 hours, 34 minutes and 13 seconds, and the final podium spot was claimed by Ryan Price out of Arcata, California, in 5 hours, 38 minutes and 7 seconds. Issaquah, Washington, was home to the vertical heavy Tiger Claw 50/50. Portland’s Tyler Green won the 50-miler by nearly 2 hours in 9 hours, 39 minutes and 45 seconds. Second place went to Jace Ives from Talent, Oregon, in 11 hours, 27 minutes and 13 seconds, and third place went to hometown runner Bryan Bhark in 11 hours, 33 minutes and 43 seconds. Issaquah’s Caitlin Jacobsen won for the women and finished in fourth overall in 12 hours, 24 minutes and 49 seconds. Second place was Christie Allemand from Redmond, Washington, in 15 hours, 31 minutes and 17 seconds. There were no other women that finished the race and only 12 runners finished the course that gained roughly 16,000 feet. Full results here.
Local Michelle Lutz won the 50k in 5 hours, 34 minutes and 22 seconds, runner-up was Selena Langner from Parks, Arizona, in 5 hours, 40 minutes and 15 seconds, and third place was Seattle’s Kristina Randrup in 5 hours, 49 minutes and 39 seconds. Seattle men swept the podium. Evan Williams won in 4 hours, 53 minutes and 17 seconds, Ben Brown was second in 5 hours, 3 minutes and 23 seconds, and Fabien Le Gallo was third in 5 hours, 22 minutes and 27 seconds.
