Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend. We know how much hard work goes into preparing for an ultramarathon, and whether you’re a newbie or seasoned pro, those long runs and hill repeats are never easy. We hope you achieved the goals you were aiming for and if not, at least you gave it a shot! In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we list results from Oregon, Quebec, California and Virginia.

McKenzie River Trail Run

We lead things off in Blue River, Oregon, at Oregon’s oldest ultramarathon, the McKenzie River Trail Run 50k (MRTR). First run in 1988, MRTR takes runners on an incredibly scenic point-to-point course past lava flows, waterfalls and the gin-clear waters of the McKenzie River. This year’s event had 209 finishers, with top female honors (third place overall) going to Caroline Alcorta in a new course record time of 3:52:04. Alcorta’s time bested Megan Canfield’s previous record of 3:58:03, which had stood since 2007. Rachel Peters was the second woman across the line in 4:33:11. Julie Baker (4:45:16) finished third. Joshua Park won the men’s race in a speedy time of 3:30:43. Mario Mendoza placed second (3:44:02), and Brian Knight (4:00:14) came in third. Full results here.

Trail La Clinique Du Coureur

Next, we travel to Burnt Park in beautiful Lac-Beauport, Quebec, for the competitive and challenging Trail La Clinique Du Coureur 50k. There were 196 runners who completed the sixth running of the event, paced by men’s winner Danny Racine in 5:00:00. Christopher Levesque-Savard finished runner-up in 5:16:01, and Jean-Francois Cauchon (5:21:09) rounded out the men’s podium in third. Sarah Bergeron-Larouche put forth a dominant performance in the women’s contest, winning and placing third overall in a new course record time of 5:21:09. Bergeron-Larouche’s time bested her previous 2018 fastest course time by over 4 minutes. Rosalie Menard finished second female in 6:30:12. Charlotte Bernier was just 40 seconds back in third (6:30:52). Full results here.

San Diego 100

Our third stop takes us to the West Coast and Lake Cuyamaca, California, for the San Diego 100. The 24th edition of the race saw a 59% finish rate, with only 135 of the 228 starters earning an official finish. In the women’s race, Brianna Grigsby ran out to the early lead and never looked back, winning and earning third overall in a time of 20:22:41. Jian Springer finished second female and tenth overall in 22:59:52. Olga King (26:18:40) took third. Rob King ran to victory in the men’s event in 19:50:00. Jason Baker came in second (20:20:20), and Jake Jackson snagged the final podium spot in third (21:29:02). Full results here.

Old Dominion

Our final stop takes us to Fort Valley, Virginia, for the year’s first event in the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning series, the Old Dominion 100 Endurance Run. This year marked the 47th running of the classic 100-miler and saw fast times in both the men’s and women’s contests. While we don’t yet have the full results from the race, we can report that Andrew Simpson won the men’s race in 15:33:55 (the third-fastest time in race history), and Whitney Richman took home the women’s title in 18:39:22, good for third overall and the second fastest female course time ever run. Check back soon for the full list of results.

Other results from this weekend include: Orcas Island 50k (Orcas Island, WA), War Eagle Trail Run (Rogers, AR), Klondike Ultra (Alberta, CA), Huron 100 (Grass Lake, MI), Scout Mountain Ultras (Pocatello, ID), Drummer Hill Trail Races (Keen, NH), Sinks Canyon Trail Races (Lander, WY), Mt Umunhum Ultras (San Jose, CA), Run Under the Stars (Paducah, KY), Shadow of the Giants (Fish Camp, CA), Summer Sasquatch (Kimbolton, OH), SF Half Day (San Francisco, CA), MoMoFo (Martinsville, IN), Echo Valley (Chelan, WA), Elijah Bristow 24/12/6 (Dexter, OR), and Crater Trail Run (Decorah, IA).

Drew Dinan traded the tropics of the Florida Keys for the trails of Bend, OR. Once living the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle, working on fishing boats and owning only a single pair of flip flops, he now has way too many running shoes in his closet and never hears the end of it from his loving wife. He is on a constant quest to find the best happy hours, likes to complain when it’s cold outside, and one day hopes to travel the country writing reviews on chicken wings.
