Our July 9 Ultra Weekend Recap highlights a big 50-miler in Colorado, a 50k in Maryland, the new Badwater 135 women’s course record and more.
We begin at an elevation of 10,000 feet in Leadville, Colorado, at Saturday’s Silver Rush 50-miler. This race comes just six weeks before the Leadville 100. Devon Yanko from Howard, Colorado, appears to have run what is one of the top five fastest times in the course’s history, winning for the women in 7 hours, 55 minutes and 10 seconds. She is just the fifth woman ever to do that at Silver Rush. The sixth woman ever is Alisyn Hummelberg from Allenspark, Colorado, who ran 7 hours, 58 minutes and 11 seconds to finish in second. Third place was Barrett Gray out of Seattle, Washington, in 8 hours, 29 minutes and 36 seconds. In the men’s contest, less than 3 minutes separated the top four, with Brad Miles of Lewisville, Texas, taking the win in 7 hours, 1 minute and 39 seconds. Will Murray from Blairstown, New Jersey, was less than a minute back in 7 hours, 2 minutes and 32 seconds, and Joel Shores out of Golden, Colorado, rounded out the podium in 7 hours, 3 minutes and 38 seconds. Does anyone have any insight into how that all played out? We’d love to hear more in the comments if you witnessed it go down — that’s one hotly contested 50-miler. Scope the full results out of Leadville here.

Maree Connor, traveling all the way from Lambton, Australia, took third in 27 hours, 49 minutes and 24 seconds. For the men, Norway’s Simen Holvik won and finished in second overall in 22 hours, 28 minutes and 8 seconds, Japan’s Yoshihiko Ishikawa came in second in 23 hours, 52 minutes and 29 seconds, and Harvey Lewis out of Cincinnati, Ohio, rounded out the podium in, 27 hours, 6 minutes and 49 seconds. Results for SOB are up on Ultrasignup now. Highlights were local savages Jace Ives, Aaron Reed winning the 50k and Molly Schmelze and winning the women’s 50miler and setting a new CR.
Jace Ives won the 100k in 9:56:47. In 2022 he also notched first place at Pine to Palm 100, Backcountry Rise 50k and Old Cascadia 50. Some fashionable podcast might call him a “random baller” but there’s nothing random about him.
Jace has been at the top of the mountain ultra trail scene for over a decade and will be in contention to win this years 2023 Run Rabbit Run 100.
Thanks for the detailed update Wooder! We’ve got the results up on our site now too. Great runs by so many, excited to see what Jace can do at RRR.
