The last weekend in July featured 39 exciting events on the Ultrarunning Magazine race calendar. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we check in on results from Montana, Ohio, Minnesota, and Colorado.

We kick things off in central Montana for the scenic and challenging Crazy Mountain 100. Beginning in Wilsall, MT and ending in Lennep, MT, the point-to-point course features 23,000 feet of vertical gain while reaching an elevation of 10,000 feet. Unofficial results show that Rachel Entrekin set a new female course record, winning in 25:04:20 and finishing eighth overall. Kyla Maher placed second in 25:48:41 (also running under the previous course best), and Liz Wigylus claimed third (26:54:18). On the men’s side, Seth Swanson took the overall win in 22:07:37, running the second fastest course time. Brandon Benefield finished second (22:34:09), and Croom Beatty completed the podium in third (23:16:40). Full results here.

Next, we head to the Buckeye State for the 18th annual Burning River Endurance Run (100-mile and 50-mile ultra distances). Starting and finishing in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, the 100-mile race saw 163 runners cross the finish line ahead of the cutoff. First place overall went to Heath Goshorn who ran a blistering 15:23:12, the second-best time on the revised out-and-back course. Erik Limkemann finished second (16:04:46), and Alec Cline secured third (16:33:12). In the women’s race, Brenda Johnson finished first and seventh overall in 19:19:13 (second fastest time on the out-and-back course). Katherine Reigstad took second (20:54:33), and Meg Parke claimed third (21:56:54).

The Burning River Endurance run also hosted two 50-mile races, one in the morning and one at night. In the 50-mile (daytime front half race), Holly Ann Swann finished first female in 7:15:34 (new CR and third overall), and Justin Bean took the overall win 6:53:41 (also a new CR). In the nighttime back half race, Samuel Darling won in 9:21:36, and Amanda Debevc took first and fifth overall for the women (10:29:48). Full results of all the races here.

Up north, we journey to Carlton, MN for the Minnesota Voyageur 50 Mile Trail Ultramarathon. Founded in 1981, this popular event is one of the oldest ultramarathons in the United States. This was a difficult year on the trails, with hot temps and high humidity resulting in a finisher rate of 60%. In the women’s contest, Amy Whelan placed first in 10:05:28. Kimberly Hurst took second (10:22:02), and Amber Thielbar rounded out the podium in third (10:30:22). In the men’s event, William Howard won in 8:36:50. Adrian Swanson finished second (8:42:19), and Murray Dunsirn ran to third (8:45:37). Shoutout to the amazing volunteers for helping runners overcome the challenging conditions. Full results here.

Second place went to Geoffrey Burns in 12:54:52, and Benjamin Bruno finished third (12:58:25). In the competitive female race, three women finished in the top ten overall with Lindsey Anderson winning in 13:46:22 (sixth overall). Sandi Nypaver finished second and seventh overall (14:02:49), and Lee Mulligan claimed third and ninth overall (14:16:21). Full results of the 100k here.

In the 60k race, the top three women finished within six minutes of one another. Taylor Bacon placed first (7:41:56 and tenth overall), Marny Scalard took second (7:45:31), and Blake Wageman finished third (7:47:32). Austin Gliottone finished first male in 6:36:43. Stephen Pretak placed second (6:54:30), and Ben Thompson secured third (7:06:27). Full results of the 60k here.

Other results from the weekend include Pikes Peak Ultra (Colorado Springs, CO), Alphabet Soup Race (Williamsburg, VA), The Summit 200 (Frisco, CO), Sombrero Sizzler (Jacksonville, FL), Tushars Mountain Runs (Eagle Point Ski Resort, UT), Standhope (Ketchum, ID), Moosalamoo Ultra (Goshen, VT), On the Rocks Trail Runs (York, PA), The Squatchy Surprise (Mountainside, NJ), and Grand Island Trail 50k (Munising, MI).

Keep an eye on our results page as more results are published, and congrats to everyone who toed the line and gave it their best this weekend!
