The final weekend of July featured 42 North American ultramarathons on the UltraRunning Magazine race calendar. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we check on results from Utah, Colorado, Ohio and British Columbia, Canada. Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend. Speedgoat
We lead things off at Utah’s Snowbird Ski Resort for the Speedgoat Mountain Races by UTMB®. An extremely difficult course combined with high altitude and challenging heat led to 176 DNFs and 529 official finishes. The conditions didn’t slow down Lauren Gregory, who ran the second-fastest female course time ever to take the women’s win in 5:56:04. Gregory placed sixth overall. Klaire Rhodes earned a second-place finish in 6:21:34, and Leah Yingling (6:27:03) rounded out the women’s podium in third.
Mason Coppi took the men’s title in 5:15:20. Anthony Williams ran to a second-place finish in 5:19:37, and Cam Smith (5:32:33) snagged third.

Never Summer
Our second stop takes us to Gould, Colorado, for another challenging mountain running event, the Never Summer 100k and 60k. In the men’s 100k race, Evan Christopherson ran away from the field to secure the win in 11:51:28. Tripp Hipple finished runner-up in 12:36:19. Jon Christensen (13:17:01) came away with the bronze.
Liv Taber won the women’s race and placed fourth overall in 13:18:25. Taber now owns the fifth-fastest women’s Never Summer 100k time. Megan Drake claimed second and was sixth overall in 13:38:16. Taylor Bacon (14:37:37) was third.

Burning River
Shuffling over to the Midwest region and Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, we check in on the Burning River Endurance Run & Relay (100-mile and 50-mile), which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year. The race saw fast times once again in both the men’s and women’s races, with Stacey Billig cruising to victory in the women’s race in 19:18:38. Billig placed ninth overall and now has the second-fastest female time on the out-and-back course. Stephanie Capilongo was the second woman across the line in 22:11:17. Rachel Eckert (22:49:57) took third.
A tight men’s race saw Jordan Lafreniere break the tape with a time of 15:34:45, now the third-fastest time on the out-and-back course. Aiman Scullion finished less than 12 minutes back in second in 15:46:19. Alec Cline (16:36:01) came in third.

Buckin’ Hell
Our final stop takes us up to North Vancouver, British Columbia, for the 10th running of the Buckin’ Hell 50k, where Alexandra Augsten was the overall winner in 5:45:09. Augsten broke the tape in the second-fastest women’s course time ever. Jennie Labrie earned an F2 and a fifth-place overall finish in 6:16:35. Roxy Bauer (7:23:36) completed the women’s podium in third.
Evan Livingstone won the men’s race in 5:50:36. Livingstone placed second overall. Vladimir Motus was the second man across the line and third overall finisher in 6:11:05. Chris Jervis was M3 and fourth overall in 6:12:17.
