The third weekend of July saw 31 ultramarathons take place across North America, including a couple of classic 100-milers. In the week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we feature events in Vermont, Oregon, Colorado and Arkansas. You can view the complete list of results on the UltraRunning Magazine results page.

Vermont 100

We lead things off in West Windsor, Vermont, at the 37th annual Vermont 100 Endurance Run (100-mile and 100k races). In the 100-miler, Justin Scheid raced to the lead early and never looked back, winning in a speedy time of 15:37:07. Thomas Hanlon finished runner-up in 16:42:51. Conor Callahan completed the men’s podium in third (17:00:57). Top honors in the women’s event went to Jenny Hoffman in 17:29:27 (fifth place overall). Sarah Aponte took second (20:31:24), and Laura Newton (20:36:19) followed in third.

Joanna Fortier cruised to victory in the women’s 100k contest, winning by well over an hour and placing sixth overall in 10:36:04. Maire-Eve Pelland finished second female in 11:45:12. Stacia Broderick was third (11:59:07). Cole Crosby set a new course record in the men’s 100k distance, taking over eight minutes off the previous course mark in 9:16:50. Felix Herron (9:50:45) crossed the line in second, and Antoine Bernatchez finished just back in third (9:54:11). Full results here.

Cascade Crest 100

Heading to the Pacific Northwest and Easton, Washington, we drop in on another Old School Ultra, the Cascade Crest 100. In the women’s contest, Washington native Kaytlyn Gerbin earned the win and placed fourth overall in 21:35:41. This was Gerbin’s second victory on the CC100 course, with her first being back in 2017. Audrey Lawrence was the second female and seventh overall finisher in 22:12:16. Madeline Wighardt took third (23:06:33). In the men’s race, Jimmy Elam stole the show on his way to running the fastest time in the race’s 26-year history. Elam’s time of 17:08:55 took nearly 48 minutes off Seth Swanson’s previous course best set in 2014. Second place went to Adam Frye in 20:27:47. Nickademus de la Rosa snagged third (20:48:33). Full results here.

High Lonesome 100

Next up, we journey to Salida, Colorado, for the High Lonesome 100, where participants had 37 hours to complete the challenging mountain course to earn their shiny buckles and engraved bottles of bourbon. First place in the men’s race went to Jeffrey Colt, who set a new course record in a crazy-fast time of 18:52:00. Colt lowered the CR by over 50 minutes and took the crown from none other than the new CC100 record holder, Jimmy Elam. Ryan Smith (20:15:04) finished second, and Daniel Trampe came in third (21:51:49). The course record also fell in the women’s race, as Rachel Entrekin raced to victory in 21:56:16. Entrekin took more than 23 minutes off the previous CR and earned a fourth-place overall finish. Careth Arnold was the second woman and seventh overall runner across the line in 23:16:33. Rachel Lemcke (23:25:01) completed the women’s podium and finished eighth overall. Full results here.

Full Moon 50k

Our final stop takes us down to Perryville, Arkansas, for the 33rd annual Full Moon 50k. 127 runners completed this year’s event, paced by women’s winner Alicia Lockard, who won the women’s race and placed third overall in 4:18:39 (second-fastest course time ever). Isabel Van Camp was the second female and fourth overall finisher in 4:28:30. Sam Pruitt came in third and seventh overall (4:50:06). Matt Pruitt won the men’s race in a fast time of 3:45:24, the second quickest men’s time ever. UltraRunning columnist Cliff Pittman came in second (4:11:16), and Wesley Hunt was third (4:31:29). Full results here.

Other results from this weekend include: Broken Goat (Rossland, BC), Harding Hustle (Modjeska Canyon, CA), Silverton Alpine (Silverton, CO), Ouray 100 (Ouray, CO), 8 Hour Dream Endurance Run (Indianapolis, IN), Big Butts (Jackson, MS) and NCTRaces: Palmers (Solon Springs, WI).

Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend!

Drew Dinan traded the tropics of the Florida Keys for the trails of Bend, OR. Once living the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle, working on fishing boats and owning only a single pair of flip flops, he now has way too many running shoes in his closet and never hears the end of it from his loving wife. He is on a constant quest to find the best happy hours, likes to complain when it’s cold outside, and one day hopes to travel the country writing reviews on chicken wings.
