While some parts of the country are still under a layer of ice and snow, we have some blazing-fast times in our Ultra Weekend Recap. We saw familiar names on the podium at the Coldwater Rumble, women dominating the Florida Roots Trail Series at Fort Clinch and frigid temperatures at Lake of the Woods 50k.

The number six Ultrarunner of the Year, Jeff Browning of Flagstaff, Arizona, continued a 100-mile streak by kicking off his 2024 season with a win. At the Coldwater Rumble in Goodyear, Arizona, Browning finished the 100-miler in 15:45:38, the second-fastest time on the course, and beating his 2023 winning time of 18:07:29 by over 2 hours. Speedster Devon Yanko of Salida, Colorado, won for the women, finished second overall and set a course record in 16:19:17. Jason Baker finished second for the men in 17:11:04 and Stephen Monaco finished third in 19:17:34. For the women, Elsa Jaworski finished second, and fourth overall, in 19:15:58, while third went to Natalie Halapin in 20:19: 44. In the 100k, Jake Jackson won for the men in 10:09:15. Matt Halverson was runner-up in 10:40:23 and Rolando Mendoza finished third in 11:41:52. Laura Noll was the first woman, winning the 100k in 12:15:02, and finishing fourth overall. In second, Anne Braggins finished in 13:52:15 and third went to Lauren Hoover in 14:15:32. Full results here when they become available.

Over on the other side of the country, at the Florida Roots Trail Race at Fort Clinch 50k, in Amelia Island, Florida, runners traversed coastal terrain on this looped course. Cason Zylinski took the overall and women’s win in 4:43:38. Maggie Weber took second for the women and third overall in 4:55:12. Mae Barker was the third woman in 5:27:10. In the men’s race, Rocky Henderson won in 4:54:03, while runner-up Toby Lentz finished in 5:01:27. Third place went to Justin Fucella in 5:23:37. Find the full list of results here.

As temperatures hovered in the single digits at the race start, runners came out in full force at Lake of the Woods 50k in Farmersville, Ohio. Ethan Deep of Dayton, Ohio, won the 50k in 5:28:53, with Rob Carvitti coming in as runner-up in 5:35:12. Third went to Cameron Phelps in 5:41:39. Women’s winner, Crystal Clark of Morrow, Ohio, finished fifth overall in 5:52:11. Second-place female was Virginia-Bibb Golden in 6:41:06 and third went to Janet Lee in 6:45:31. Full results here when they become available.
