New Zealand’s Golden Ticket race saw former UR Podcast guest Ryan Montgomery punch his entry into Western States, coming up in June, with a third-place finish at Tarawera 102k, while other North American results from Georgia, Texas and Alabama highlight our Ultra Weekend Recap for February 12.
At the 17th Annual Georgia Thrill In The Hills 50k (Fort Yargo) in Winder, Georgia, Yomeko Yoshida from Suwanee, Georgia, won the women’s race in 5 hours, 2 minutes and 44 seconds. Katy Goggin from Atlanta, Georgia, came in second in 5 hours, 35 minutes and 41 seconds, and Fran Ericson from Cumming, Georgia, took third in 5 hours 56 minutes and 20 seconds. In the men’s race, Tom Kutter of Loganville, Georgia, took the win in a speedy 3 hours, 47 minutes and 50 seconds, with Matt Triick out of Macon, Georgia, securing second in 4 hours, 3 minutes and 32 seconds. Brian Smerkers from Greenville, South Carolina, rounded out the podium in 4 hours, 9 minutes and 32 seconds. Check out the full results here.
In Missoula, Montana, the Running Up for Air – Mt. Sentinel 12-hour race saw both podiums swept by Missoula residents. Kallie Smith won the 12-hour for the women and also finished in third overall with 10 laps completed in 10 hours, 58 minutes and 50 seconds. Helena LaFave was the race’s runner-up with 10 laps in 11 hours and 24 seconds, and Kristina Pattison finished in third in 11 hours, 19 minutes and 39 seconds. Josh Pierce took the men’s title with 11 laps in 11 hours, 32 minutes and 27 seconds, and Christopher Kirk came in second with 10 laps completed in 10 hours, 54 minutes and 19 seconds. The 6-hour race saw Marilee Woyth from Great Falls, Montana, win with 6 laps in 5 hours and 51 minutes. Dani Goodson of Helena, Montana, took second with 5 laps in 5 hours, 15 minutes and 29 seconds. Julie McCloskey from Missoula finished in third with 4 laps in 5 hours, 3 minutes and 47 seconds. Local runner Cory Salitrik won the men’s contest with 6 laps in 5 hours, 38 minutes and 1 second, Gavin Wisdom of Missoula was the runner-up with 6 laps in 5 hours, 48 minutes and 3 seconds, and Colton Born from Whitefish, Montana, was the final man on the podium with 6 laps in 5 hours, 57 minutes and 13 seconds. Down in Guntersville, Alabama, at the Eagle Ridge 50k, Tilman Bertram from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, won in 5 hours, 3 minutes and 57 seconds, while Nate Ardanowski of Richmond, Virginia, came in second in 5 hours, 14 minutes and 53 seconds. Tristan Potter out of Arab, Alabama, was less than 2 minutes back in 5 hours, 16 minutes and 11 seconds. Leading the women’s race was Mary Gerth from Acworth, Georgia, with the second-fastest time ever on the course in 5 hours, 18 minutes and 37 seconds. She was followed by Amelia Harrison of New Market, Alabama, in 6 hours, 50 minutes and 2 seconds, and Hannah Joy Lee from Pleasantville, Tennessee, in 7 hours and 59 seconds.
