The final weekend of October featured 70 ultramarathons in North America. You can check out our full list of results on the UltraRunning Magazine results page. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we dive into race results from Tennessee, Arizona and Wisconsin. Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend! Let us know how your race went in the comments below.

Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra

Australian Phil Gore earned the title of world’s best backyard ultrarunner earlier this week, winning the Big’s Backyard Ultra, the 2025 Backyard Ultra World Championships, by running an astonishing 475 miles. While not a world record (Gore ran 495.8 miles in June), Gore’s 114 yards (each yard is a 4.167-mile loop) is the most run on American soil and the top performance ever at Big’s. Assisting Gore to his victory was Belgian Ivo Steyaert, who lasted 113 yards (470.83 miles) before eventually bowing out. Americans Harvey Lewis and Jon Noll also had personal best showings this year, finishing with 111 laps and 462.5 miles each. On the women’s side, Sarah Perry of Great Britain shattered the backyard ultra women’s world record by running 95 laps. Perry added eight yards to Megan Eckert’s previous world record set last year and finished with an amazing 395.83 miles. Perry’s assist came from none other than Eckert, who improved upon her 2024 CR by 5 yards and finished second female with 92 loops and 383.33 miles. Edit Furész finished third for the women, completing 316.66 miles (76 loops). Full results here.

Javelina Jundred

This year’s Javelina Jundred will go down as one of the most epic 100-milers of the 2025 race season, with incredible performances on both the women’s and men’s sides. In the women’s event, Tara Dower ran a blistering 8:07 pace on her way to winning in a new female course-record time of 13:31:47. Dower finished seventh overall and took over a half-hour off Camille Herron’s previous course mark. Beth McKenzie ran a steady race to claim a second-place finish (ninth overall) in 14:31:14. Addie Bracy (14:45:02) rounded out the women’s podium in third. In a thrilling men’s race, the top three runners all went well under the previous course record time of 12:43:10 and finished less than 10 minutes apart from one another. First place honors went to new course-record holder Will Murray, who raced across the line in 12:10:12 (7:18 pace), staking his claim as the fastest man in the desert. David Roche was the second male finisher in 12:18:06. Canyon Woodward (12:19:58) finished less than 2 minutes back in third. Dower, McKenzie, Murray and Roche all earned Golden Ticket automatic entries into the 2026 Western States Endurance Run.
