‘Twas the weekend before Christmas, when out on the trails, ultrarunners were stirring to complete one of the 13 events on the UltraRunning Magazine race calendar. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we check in on results from California, Florida and Georgia.

We kick things off in Cool, California, for the second running of the Doomsday 50k. There were 71 runners who finished this year’s event, with Michaela Burgess crossing the finish line first for the women, setting a new female course record and placing fourth overall in 5:38:24. Mia Knipper finished second woman and tenth overall (5:54:15). Sandra Sperry (6:03:10) snagged third. Kenneth Sherfey led the way for the men, winning overall in 5:27:41. Samuel Cooper finished second (5:33:34), and Kris Kent (5:36:32) ran to third. Full results here.

Staying in the Golden State in Woodside, California, we check in on the 13th annual Woodside Ramble 50k. In the men’s race, local Mill Valley resident Adam Roeder cruised to victory in 4:23:08. Marcos Santibanes finished second (4:43:39), and Jonah Porth (4:44:41) finished just behind in third. On the women’s side, Kimberly Neely took the win and finished sixth overall in 4:52:12. Lauren Matheou came in second (5:19:01), and Heather Lutz (5:31:46) rounded out the podium in third. Full results here.

Next, we head across the country to Bartow, Florida, for Peace River 50k. There were 33 runners who earned an official finish in the inaugural event, with Nikki Criscuolo winning the women’s race and finishing fifth overall in 4:40:41. Loan Vo took second and seventh overall (4:50:12). Rebecca Whitman (4:58:38) placed third female and ninth overall. Jonathan Mott raced to victory for the men in 3:41:45. Zachary Speno took second (3:51:08), and Jonathan Kier (4:02:54) finished third. Full results here.

Our final stop takes us to Lookout Mountain, Georgia, for the 17th annual Lookout Mountain Trail Race. Saturday’s 50-mile event had 49 finishers, with top honors going to Devon Brodmyer with his winning time of 7:48:50. Mac Dean came in second (8:04:56), and William Sickenberger (8:08:57) completed the men’s podium in third. In the women’s race, Aden St. Charles crossed the finish line first in 10:12:48. Kelsey Lane claimed second (10:50:24), and Natalie Daniel (11:11:15) finished third. Full results here.

Drew Dinan traded the tropics of the Florida Keys for the trails of Bend, OR. Once living the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle, working on fishing boats and owning only a single pair of flip flops, he now has way too many running shoes in his closet and never hears the end of it from his loving wife. He is on a constant quest to find the best happy hours, likes to complain when it’s cold outside, and one day hopes to travel the country writing reviews on chicken wings.
