Lynchburg, Virginia. Scott Jaime of Highlands Park, Colorado and Alison Bryant of Elkin, North Carolina were winners at the 28th annual Mountain Masochist 50.
Jaime took the lead after the Irish Creek aid station and was unpressed the rest of the way. Bryant, winner last month of the Rock/Creek StumpJump 50K, was running her first 50-miler. She took the lead from Heather Fisher about two hours from the finish and pulled away to a 22-minute win. Jill Perry held off a late charge by Alyssa Wildeboer for second, as Fisher fell to fourth.
The Mountain Masochist is part of the Montrail Ultra Cup series and the top two male and female finishers won automatic spots at the 2011 Western States 100.
