Clifton, Virginia, April 10. Leigh Schmitt and Aliza LaPierre both set course records at the 18th annual Bull Run Run 50 Mile. Schmitt, from Conway, Massachusetts won the race for the fifth time and broke Tom Nielsen’s 2004 record by eight minutes.
LaPierre, from Williston, Vermont, edged Eva Pastalkova from Ashburn, Virginia to take the women’s title. Both women were under the previous course record.
The race was held under ideal conditions with temperatures peaking in the mid-60s. Of the 336 starters, 313 finished within the 13-hour time limit.
