Pasadena, California, August 29. Jorge Pacheco won the 23rd annual Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run, finishing two hours ahead of Brian Polley, who edged Roperto Romero for second by less than two minutes. Pacheco led the race from wire to wire to record his fourth win at Angeles Crest; he also won here in 2001, 2003 and 2004.
Keira Henninger, the Leona Divide race director, was the women’s winner in 24:15. Vanessa Jones was in second place at Idlehour aid station (mile 83.7) followed by Donna Utakis, Maria Lemus and Cheryl Zwarkowski. Henninger took the lead at about 40 miles from early leader Pam Smith of Salem, Oregon. Smith later dropped at mile 49.
