Coto de Caza, California, February 18. Jon Olsen of Modesto, California blitzed the Rocky Road 100 in 13:14:44, posting the seventh fastest American 100-mile performance in history. The race is held on a 15-mile out-and-back mostly groomed dirt surface, which is mostly flat with some small rolling hills. Olsen ran consistently throughout, posting split times of 2:00, 1:58, 1:56, 1:57, 1:59, and 2:02 for each 15-mile loop, and closed in 1:23 for the final ten miles.
Fifty-three-year-old Jeri Ginsburg was the women’s winner. Ideal weather helped the cause. It was 46F at the 6 a.m. start, with high temperatures peaking in the low 60s under sunny skies.
