As if he had not raced enough in 2014, Michael Wardian followed up his early December California double– a super fast 7:06 at the muddy North Face San Francisco 50 Miler followed by a sizzling 2:36 at the California International Marathon the next day in Sacramento– with the Hawk Indoor Ultramarathon 50k on New Year’s Eve.
Despite stomach issues Wardian cruised around the 200 meter indoor track in Hagerstown, Maryland in 3 hours and 6 minutes, breaking his own record of 3:12. That capped a year in which Wardian completed 17 ultras and 11 marathons on five different continents—in all he completed 54 races.
Wardian’s numerous fans in California are excited for his return to The Western States 100 this year—as they ponder whether or not he will taper for at least one day prior to the shotgun blast at 5am on June 27, 2015.
