Augusta, New Jersey, May 14. Veteran New York City runner Philip McCarthy broke the American record for 48 hours in posting a 257.43 mile total at the Three Days at the Fair Run. McCarthy easily bested the previous mark of 248.55 miles held by John Geesler, set in 2003.
The race was held on a 0.8578-mile mostly paved loop at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. McCarthy notched an even 300 laps in his record run.
