Lake Hughes, California, April 28. Dylan Bowman of Aspen, Colorado smashed the course record in winning the 21st annual Leona Divide 50. Bowman edged ahead of Jorge Maravilla in the second half of the race. Tim Olson eventually passed Maravilla for second. Bowman and Maravilla won spots in the Western States 100. Olson was a top 10 finisher last year and has an automatic spot.
Heather Fuhr of Encinitas, California, a former world Ironman triathlon champion, won by 15 minutes over Ashley Nordell. Nordell overtook Megan Laib late in the race for second, securing a spot at the Western States 100.
The race is part of the Montrail Ultra Cup series, which culminates with Western States on June 23.
