Featured: Western States 100 (Olympic Valley, CA)
Western States Week has finally arrived! The action begins at 5 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, when runners begin the climb out of Olympic Valley, California, as they attempt to complete the world’s oldest ultramarathon and one of the premier events in the sport, the Western States Endurance Run. This year marks the 53rd running of the iconic event and will once again feature a stacked field of elite male and female endurance athletes, as well as many ultrarunners from around the globe who finally had the lottery gods on their side after years of running qualifying races.
For those unfamiliar with the course, runners will tackle a point-to-point trek that begins at Palisades Tahoe and finishes on the track at Placer High School in Auburn, California. Along the way, they’ll traverse high country trails that climb to 8,750 feet, descend into the brutal heat of the canyons (regularly hitting temps well over triple digits), and run historic trails with 18,000 feet of elevation gain and 23,000 feet of loss. Runners have 30 hours to finish the race and earn their buckles, with sub-24-hour finishers earning coveted silver buckles.
Follow all the action live on the 53rd Western States 100 live stream.
