If you thought you could take a breather after last week’s excitement on our UltraRunning Calendar, think again. This week we have a couple of epic mountain 100-milers, two vertical-heavy 50k races, lots of prize money up for grabs and a whole lot more.
Starting on Friday, July 21 In Ouray, Colorado, we have the Ouray 100 Mile Endurance Run (and accompanying 50-miler that starts on Saturday, July 22). With over 40,000 feet of gain, this rugged and stunning route in the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado is a true test of determination and grit. Besides the well-earned belt buckle for finishing in under 52 hours, race leaders get to compete for a cash prize purse. The top female 100-mile finisher will receive $1,250 and the top male will win $1,000. For the 50-miler, the women’s champion will take home $625, while the first of the men to cross the finish will net $500. Live tracking here.
Flying west to Government Camp, Oregon, is the Wy’east Trailfest 50k. Starting Saturday, this two-loop course lies in the shadow of Mt. Hood and offers incredible views, with rugged volcanic alpine trails, lush meadows and forest canopies for a truly epic trail race experience. The race is also delivering a nice prize purse to the front runners with $2,000 to first place, $1,200 to second and $800 to third in both the women’s and men’s races. Check out live results and tracking here.
Also on Saturday, at the Snowbird Resort in Utah’s Wasatch Mountain Range, is the always competitive Speedgoat 50k. The race consists of 11,800 feet of ascent and descent, almost entirely above an elevation of 9,000 feet. Noted as one of the most technical and steep mountainous 50k events in North America, Speedgoat boasts a prize purse of $7,000 with winners taking home $2,000 each, second place receiving $1,000 and third getting $500.
