In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we feature race results from Oregon, Colorado, New York and British Columbia. Let’s dive right in.
Our first stop takes us to Sisters, Oregon, for the scenic point-to-point Oregon Cascades 100 (100-mile and 50-mile races). This year’s event saw cool temperatures, multiple course records fall and 271 runners attempting to cover the 100-mile distance. First place male in the 100-miler went to Colton Gale who shattered the previous course mark by nearly 3.5 hours in a time of 14:36:05. James Holk finished second (16:42:45), and Nicholas Kopp came in third (17:40:47). On the women’s side, Kimberly Neely took the win and finished second overall, breaking the previous course record by over 3 hours in a super-fast time of 16:39:17. Jaclyn Noshay claimed second (17:51:03) and fifth overall, and Madalyn Nones rounded out the podium in third (18:42:30)).
Course records were also broken in the Oregon Cascades 50-mile race, with Elise Lagerstrom taking the women’s win with the fastest female course time ever in 8:34:45 (fifth overall). Miga McCurdy finished second in 8:37:31 (sixth overall), and Bethany Bachmeier placed third (8:46:01) and seventh overall. Todd Simpson won the overall race running a men’s CR in 6:58:25. Stephen Snazuk took second (7:58:45), and Jeremiah Mcgregor finished third (8:12:21). Full results here.
Heading to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, we check in on the ninth annual Continental Divide 50k. There were 137 runners who completed the race in under the 9-hour cutoff time, with top female honors going to Shannon Dowlearn in 4:45:11 (fifth overall). Caton Brewster finished second woman in 5:30:31, and Reall Regan placed third (5:41:19). In the men’s race, Devon Olson became the first runner to run sub-4 hours on the course, setting a new CR and taking the overall win in 3:59:53. Ben Lefevre claimed second (4:32:24), and Brad Barry finished just behind in third (4:32:50). Full results here.
Next, we travel to the majestic Fingers Lakes Region in the heart of upstate New York for the 10th annual Twisted Branch Trail Run. The 100k point-to-point race saw 156 of 203 runners cross the finish line ahead of the 20-hour cutoff, as well as new course records in both the men’s and women’s events. First place male went to Parker Weeks who became the first runner in the race’s history to crack the 10-hour mark, setting a new course record in 9:57:57. Ben Quatromoni finished second (10:54:32), and Andrew Tidd came in third (11:20:08). In the women’s race, Jessie George brought home the title and finished ninth overall in a new course record time of 12:24:04. Zoe Fortier claimed second (13:47:27), and Kehr Davis completed the podium in third (14:05:00). Full results here.
Our final stop takes us to the charming British Columbia town of Kimberely for the Black Spur Ultra (108k and 54k races). In the 108k solo female division, Laura Wismer claimed the victory in 15:18:54 (eighth overall). Shelby Lee finished second (15:52:05), and Lisa Rising took third (16:48:42). In the 108k men’s race, Gerry Van Dyk took top honors in 13:12:54. Andy Collin finished second (13:16:10), and Marcus Ivey placed third (13:30:59).
In the 54k distance, Mary Lamb took the women’s win, finishing fourth overall and running the third-fastest female course time ever in 5:43:47. Mandy Currie finished second (6:26:16 and ninth overall), and Lauren Rees placed third (6:55:06). In the men’s event, Quincy Fast lived up to his name taking the win and running the second fastest time in race history in 4:58:06. Thomas Jefferson took second (5:20:54), and Andrew Higgins came in third (5:26:29). Full results here.
