Leading our Ultra Weekend Recap for October 21-22 we have Lake Sonoma 55/100k in California, Mines of Spain 100 in Iowa, Tussey Mountainback 50/50 in Pennsylvania and a handful of other races.
Just outside of Healdsburg, California, was the Lake Sonoma 55/100k on Saturday. Leading the way for the men was Geoffrey Burns of Colorado Springs, Colorado, with a time of 9 hours, 35 minutes and 26 seconds. The splits indicate he took the lead between miles 20 and 25 and never let it go. Second place went to Matthew Bigman from Portland, Oregon, less than 10 minutes back in 9 hours, 42 minutes and 7 seconds. Third went to Kevin Stewart out of Gilroy, California, in 10 hours, 4 minutes and 43 seconds. Nichole Abma from Canmore, Alberta, moved into the lead by mile 12 and held to the line, winning in 12 hours, 11 minutes and 4 seconds. Katie D’Ambrosia hailing from Broomall, Pennsylvania, was the runner-up in 12 hours, 48 minutes and 52 seconds. Rebecca Anderson from Truckee, California, rounded out the women’s podium in 13 hours, 11 minutes and 57 seconds. Read the full 100k results here and 55k results here.
At the Tussey Mountainback 50/50 in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, Bianca Pourmussa of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, won the women’s contest in 8 hours, 14 minutes and 34 seconds. Just a few minutes back in second was Jennifer Garis out of State College, Pennsylvania, with a time of 8 hours, 17 minutes and 3 seconds. Rana Weikel of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, was also hot on their heels closing in third in 8 hours, 22 minutes and 22 seconds. Taking the title for the men was Brett Mason out of New Freedom, Pennsylvania, in 6 hours, 38 minutes and 37 seconds. Garrett Campbell from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, secured second in 6 hours, 57 minutes and 4 seconds, and third was Tyler Seutter of Akron, Ohio, in 7 hours, 18 minutes and 9 seconds. At the Mines of Spain 100-miler in Dubuque, Iowa, Ellyse Ungs from Dyersville, Iowa, won and set a new course record in 22 hours, 49 minutes and 55 seconds in what appears to be her first ultra finish. Lily Media out of Oglesby, Illinois, came in second place in 24 hours, 46 minutes and 20 seconds, and third place was Tiffany Gunhus from Washburn, Iowa, in 25 hours, 30 minutes and 45 minutes. Collin Buck of Farmington, Minnesota, won the race outright in 19 hours, 53 minutes and 19 seconds, RJ Montes of Ashbury, Iowa, came in in 20 hours, 10 minutes and 10 seconds and Chad Fridley of Huxley, Iowa, came in soon after in 20 hours, 15 minutes and 7 seconds. 4th annual Heritage 50k Trail Run in Adrian, Michigan. New CR by the guy I didn’t see again after the first 2 minutes.
