Memorial Day weekend featured 46 North American ultramarathons on the UltraRunning Magazine race calendar. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we check on results from Ontario, Oregon, Arizona and Texas. Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend. Sulphur Springs Trail Race
Ontario’s longest-running ultramarathon (established 1992), Sulphur Springs Trail Race, took place Saturday, May 23, in Hamilton, Ontario. This year’s event featured four ultra distances, including 50k, 50 miles, 100k and 100 miles, all taking place on a 20k loop course. There were 196 runners who set off to try and complete the 100-mile distance in under 30 hours, with Owen Lane leading the way in the men’s race in a time of 17:38:17. Tim McDonough ran to a second-place finish in 19:36:52. Elias Kibreab completed the top three in 20:05:55.
In the women’s race, Val Bauman took home the title in 26:49:06. Ashley Sametz came in second in 27:06:01, and Adrienne Kemp took third in 27:48:46.

Stumptown Trail Runs
Our second stop takes us to Portland, Oregon, for the 15th running of the Stumptown Trail Runs. There were 137 runners completed the 50k course through Forest Park, led by women’s winner Kelly Flaminio, who raced to victory in 5:22:37. Gretchen Landgraf followed in second place in 5:28:41, and Ashley Durstine claimed third in 5:31:29.
On the men’s side, Ajay Hanspal and Nicholas Hughes battled it out up front, with Hanspal breaking the tape in a winning time of 3:51:42. Hughes finished just over three minutes back in second place in 3:54:51, while Dakota Buer rounded out the men’s podium in third in 4:02:33.
Baby Timm won the non-binary division in a new non-binary course record time of 4:12:23.

Adrenaline Night Runs
Next up, we head to McDowell Mountain Regional Park in Fountain Hills, Arizona, for the Adrenaline Night Runs, part of the 2026 Insomniac Night Trail Run Series. Runners set off in the desert at 7 p.m. with their headlamps to complete the 50k course, with 58 finishing the race in under the 10-hour cutoff. Top honors in the men’s competition went to Joseph Moreno, who ran away from the competition to secure the victory in a new course record time of 3:49:17. Kurt Houghton (4:35:43) took home M2 honors, and Matt Heacock (4:37:11) completed the men’s podium in third.
Marlena DeLeone won the women’s contest in 5:23:34. DeLeone placed seventh overall. Callie Arndt finished second female in 6:09:21, and Jennifer Cook (6:39:42) came in third.

Sugar Badger Trail Races
Our final stop takes us to the Badger and Sugar River State Trails in Belleville, Wisconsin, for the Sugar Badger Trail Races (50-mile and 50k distances). Saturday’s 50-miler saw Andrea Stabelfeldt race out to an early lead and never look back, earning the victory in 7:30:39. Stabelfeldt placed fourth overall. Amanda Richey followed in second place and ran to a top-five overall finish in 7:37:03. Emily Gage rounded out the women’s podium in third in 8:22:56 (eight overall).
On the men’s side, Erl Martin paced the way with a winning time of 6:07:36. Erl has now won the Sugar Badger 50 twice (2023) and the 50k (2025), holding top course times in both. Matt Zepecki ran to a second-place finish in 6:35:06, while Christopher Allen came in third in 7:04:22.
