Kicking it off in Pilot Hill, California, at Saturday’s point-to-point Salmon Falls 50k, Cody Lind from Challis, Idaho, took the win and set a new course by nearly 30 minutes in 3 hours, 27 minutes and 5 seconds. Second place went to Edward Stace out of Santa Barbara, California, in 4 hours, 2 minutes and 5 seconds, and third place was claimed by Conan Kelly of Loomis, California, in 4 hours, 3 minutes and 9 seconds. Emily Hawgood from Beatrice, Zimbabwe, successfully defended her title by winning in 4 hours, 16 minutes and 14 seconds. Ashley Silva of Folsom, California, was the runner-up in 4 hours, 35 minutes and 26 seconds, and Heather Van Sickle from Sacramento, California, rounded out the podium in 4 hours, 44 minutes and 40 seconds. At the 19th Annual Psycho Wyco Run Toto Run 50k in Kansas City, Kansas, Lana Snyder from Des Moines, Iowa, won in 7 hours, 30 minutes and 41 seconds, Erin Shaw out of Decorah, Iowa, finished in second in 8 hours, 52 minutes and 46 seconds, and Gloria Young of Independence, Missouri, came in third in 9 hours, 46 minutes and 35 seconds. Hometown runners in the men’s race took the first and second spots. Cody Jones was first in 4 hours, 19 minutes and 38 seconds, and Hans Van Zanten secured second in 4 hours and 33 minutes. Out East today in Black Mountain, North Carolina, at the Mt. Mitchell Challenge the top three males were all from Blacksburg, Virginia: Aaron Slabach won by just 11 seconds in 4 hours, 49 minutes and 24 seconds, with Jordan Chang hot on his heels securing second place in 4 hours, 49 minutes and 35 seconds. Danny Mathieson finished in third in 4 hours, 55 minutes and 7 seconds. Emily Flynn from Norfolk, Virginia, won the women’s contest in 6 hours, 24 minutes and 48 seconds, with Veronica Rudolphi of Hampton, Virginia, finishing as the runner-up in 7 hours, 4 minutes and 35 seconds, and Carrie Maresh hailing from Black Mountain taking third in 7 hours, 47 minutes and 50 seconds.
