A longstanding name in footwear, Saucony also has an apparel line with new options for summer running. As part of their growth into the clothing market, a key component across Saucony’s entire apparel line is the predominant use of sustainable materials such as recycled polyester, recycled nylon, recycled insulation and organic cotton fabrics. All of the pieces we tested feature a high percentage of recycled materials in their construction. Saucony is also a member of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, an alliance of apparel, footwear and textile companies committed to sustainable production and public transparency.
Saucony Stopwatch Singlet
This is a no-frills, basic sweat-wicking piece at an affordable price point. The classic tank includes a shallow scoop neckline in front and full coverage across the shoulders in back. The fabric is light and wicks moisture away from the skin, even on sweaty summer days, providing consistent comfort throughout a long run. This top is listed as having an athletic fit, but we found it slightly loose through the torso. The hemline drops a bit in the rear for increased coverage, making this top well-suited for yoga or general wear in addition to running.
Saucony Outpace 3″ Shorts
Like the Stopwatch singlet, the Outpace shorts have classic styling while providing impressive comfort and moisture-wicking abilities. The main body panels are lightweight and dry quickly, and the soft brief liner moves sweat to the exterior panels effectively. An elastic waistband fits true to size, and an interior drawcord allows for increased fit as needed. The zippered back pocket was large enough for our iPhone 11, and keeps keys or gels secure. These shorts are also available in a longer 5” inseam or a shorter 2.5” option, however, all three have split leg styling for increased range of motion.
Packaway Jacket
This light jacket is an ideal option to stash away just in case the weather takes a turn during longer outings in the summer. A Durable Water Repellant coating provides a small measure of water resistance in light rain, but the jacket will become saturated with prolonged or heavy precipitation. The neckline is used as functional space, as the hood can be zipped inside. The entire garment can pack into the same pocket when you take it off, with a carrying strap for attachment to a pack if needed. Two front zippered pockets give your hands a bit of protection and are sizeable enough to carry small gear like keys or gels. The waist can be cinched to customize the fit, and a drop hem provides additional coverage.
