The hottest day in the Diez Vista’s 26-year history didn’t just apply to the weather in Port Moody, BC, as the top runners all but lit the 50k course on fire.
The 10-year-old men’s course record was broken by the top three runners, with the new fastest time by Marcus Ribi now sitting at an astonishing 3:50. On the women’s side, we saw the quickest time in 15 years by Sarah James in 4:50, though the overall record from 2007 still sits just beyond reach. The woman’s record holder, Suzanne Evans, was only bettered by a single runner back in 2007— a name ultrarunning aficionados will know well: the one and only Brian Morrison.
With legends like Ellie Greenwood, Scott Jurek, Krissy Moehl and Hal Koerner all having toed the line at their peak, you can be certain that the course records at Diez Vista have been hard-earned over the years.
We also saw a record number of finishers in 2024, with 385 crossing the finish line, including race Patriarch Philip Waters, who, at age 76, claimed his 17th DV finish. Of note, ultrarunning couple Jeff and Kelsy Trigg now each hold the most finishes for a male and female, with Jeff claiming his 21st, and Kelsy snagging her 15th. We look forward to doing it all again in April 2025, but don’t count on the sun coming out again next year, as it was just the third time in race history that runners managed to stay completely dry, at least until they jumped into the lake post-race.
