At this year’s “D-100,” a truly outstanding breakthrough came in the individual 100-mile race. Oliver Biezer, 21, from New Albany, Ohio, rolled to a spectacular win, establishing a new course record in 13:34:47. The women’s 100-mile race was won by Nicole Coccia, in a time of 16:18:55. Hailing from Riverview, Florida, Nicole also won the Keys 100 in May.
In 2017, Lee Whitaker set the 100-mile record of 14:11:00. This year, Ivan Penalba Lopez, who finished second at Badwater 135 in July, flew to Florida from Valencia, Spain, with the goal of beating Whitaker’s record. Supported by crew chief Blain Reeves, Ivan did not disappoint, and completed the 100-mile course in 13:51:34, finishing in second place with the second-fastest time ever on the course. Fred Soly rounded out the podium in 14:55:30.
Caryn Lubetsky finished second woman in 16:47:44, while Suzi Swinehart finished in third in 17:18:19 –both women were also the top three master’s finishers overall.
The Daytona 100 is run along the ocean, on road SR A1A, point-to-point for 100 miles, from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, to the historic lighthouse at Ponce Inlet, Florida. Running through old Florida towns like Flagler Beach, and iconic Daytona Beach, the course is flat and fast and beautiful. December weather in northern Florida could not have been better with temperatures ranging from the low 50s to the low 70s.
In the 50-miler, multiple-time finisher, Jessica Jones, from Dauphin Island, Alabama, won the women’s race in 7:54:52. Fernando Holz won the men’s side in 7:19:41. (Fernando also won the 50k in our inaugural Miccosukee Glades Runner Ultra last March.)
The 50k competition featured men’s winner, Adam Ping from Gainesville, Florida, in 4:37:27, and women’s winner, Logan Thorpe, from Fort Lauderdale, in 5:07:16.
Finally, the 100-mile team, Performance Purpose Running, broke the relay course record by 1 hour and 19 minutes.
The race finish line is at the foot of the spectacular Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. At night, this brick red tower lights the way home. Hot food and hospitality await runners in the park, and the annual post-race awards presentation is held across the street at Hidden Treasure Rum Bar & Grill, rounding out this celebration of athletic excellence.
Daytona 100 returns on December 12, 2026.
