Crystal Mountain, Washington, July 28. Sage Canaday won the 20th annual White River 50, destroying Anton Krupicka’s seemingly unassailable course record in the process. Canaday, who won the famed Mount Washington Road Race in June, moved from his native Sheridan, Oregon to Boulder, Colorado in June. The former Cornell University track star, a two-time Olympic Trials marathon qualifier, ran his first ultra at the Chuckanut 50K in March. American River 50 winner Vajin Armstrong of New Zealand finished a distant second.
Ellie Greenwood, fresh off her course record victory at Western States last month, won the women’s race handily, posting the third fastest time in event history. Fellow British Columbian Melanie Bos was second. The 275 finishers enjoyed ideal racing weather, sunny with temperatures in the low 60s.
