Gibraltar, November 17. Ellie Greenwood, a native of Scotland living in Banff, Alberta, won the 24th World 100km Championship, edging Monica Carlin of Italy. Greenwood’s time was 7:29:05. Britain’s LIzzy Hawker led for most of the race; Greenwood didn’t take the lead for good until after the 95-km mark. Meghan Arbogast of Corvallis, Oregon was the top masters at age 49, and finished fifth overall.
Japan’s Shinji Nakadai pulled away from Michael Wardian of Arlington, Virginia at the 90-km mark to win overall in 6:43:44. Wardian, who led for much of the middle part of the race, ended up finishing third in a time of 6:49:18. Chad Ricklefs of Boulder, Colorado was 14th and second in the masters division.
