Easton, Washington, August 29. Jeff Browning of Bend, Oregon took advantage of cool racing conditions to break the course record at the 12th annual Cascade Crest Classic held in the mountains east of Seattle. Browning won handily over defending champion Phil Shaw, who held of Bill Huggins for second.
The women’s race was tight throughout, with five-time Wasatch champ Betsy Nye emerging victorious. It was Nye’s 25th 100-mile finish. Of the 115 starters, 78 finished the demanding course within the 32-hour time limit.
