The weekend before St. Patrick’s Day saw 45 races on UltraRunning Magazine’s North American race calendar. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we highlight race results from California, Tennessee, Kentucky and Arizona. Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend. Marin Ultra Challenge
We begin in Sausalito, California, for the 13th running of the Marin Ultra Challenge 50k and 50-mile races. There were 236 runners who set off Saturday from Rodeo Beach in the 50k race, attempting to tackle over 6,000 feet of elevation gain on some of Marin County’s best trails. Top honors in the women’s race went to YiOu Wang, who broke the tape in 4:30:10 and placed sixth overall. Ananya Ramkumar was the second woman and tenth overall runner across the line in 4:49:15. Teresa Lew (4:57:39) rounded out the women’s podium in third.
Zander Geddes secured the win in the men’s race in a time of 4:03:03. Joseph Roldan (4:10:53) took second, and Peyton Melin came in third (4:18:08).

Pistol Ultra
Our second stop takes us to the Smoky Mountain foothills in Tennessee for the 13th edition of the Pistol Ultras (100-mile, 100k, 50-mile and 50k). Saturday’s 100-mile race challenged participants to complete ten USATF-certified 10-mile loops in under 32 hours. First place in the men’s competition went to Sean Stanley in 16:46:26. Christopher Racine finished M2 and fourth overall in 20:21:52. Corey Cappelloni was the third male and fifth overall finisher in 21:34:19.
Piper Gray stole the show in the women’s 100-miler, taking home the win in 17:15:37. Gray finished in second place overall. Francesca Muccini was the second female and third overall finisher in 19:20:28. Laura Brewer (24:01:15) finished F3.

Land Between the Lakes
Shuffling over to beautiful Kentucky Lake in Grand Rivers, Kentucky, we drop in on the 21st year of The Great American Trail Race: Land Between the Lakes (50-mile and 60k ultramarathons). There were 77 runners who completed Saturday’s 50-mile race, paced by women’s winner Savannah Rose in 8:32:14. Rose placed fourth overall. Lana Graff earned second-place female and a sixth overall finish in 8:48:08. Lindsey Robers (9:27:28) took third.
Gregory Humkey cruised to victory in the men’s contest, winning in 7:27:46. Joe Buckles (7:52:49) finished second, and Ryan Fina (8:12:07) was third.

Mesquite Canyon Trail Runs
We wrap things up at White Tank Mountain Regional Park in Waddell, Arizona, for the Mesquite Canyon Trail Runs 50k and 50-mile races. Cody McKesson led the way in the men’s Sonoran Desert Cup 50k, winning in a time of 4:32:24. Kurt Houghton (5:08:10) finished M2, and Cory Gilbert (5:21:14) came in third.
Alicia Woodside ran a dominant race to win the women’s 60k in 5:23:58. Woodside finished fourth overall. Kelly Cockrell was the second female finisher in 6:21:46. Manuela Dietzinger (6:23:12) completed the women’s podium in third.
