The first weekend of May saw 56 ultramarathons on UltraRunning Magazine’s North American race calendar. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we dive into results from Tennessee, California and Oregon. Strolling Jim
We lead things off in Wartrace, Tennessee, on the rolling backroads of Bedford County, for the 48th running of the Strolling Jim 40-mile ultramarathon.
Saturday’s race saw three men earn their coveted gold-colored shirts by finishing in under 5 hours. First place went to John Kruckeberg in 4:41:07. This was Kruckeberg’s third Strolling Jim win and sixth podium finish in the last seven years. Last year’s third-place finisher, Joseph Spear, finished just behind in second in 4:42:32. Dylan Glass came in third in 4:50:56.
Top women’s honors went to Crystal Wheatley in 6:24:00. April McGee ran to a second-place finish in 6:48:14, and Savannah Davis rounded out the women’s podium in third in 6:55:04. All three women earned red t-shirts for finishing the race in under 7 hours.

Miwok 100K
Our next stop takes us to beautiful Stinson Beach, California, for the Miwok 100k presented by The North Face. The 2026 edition of the classic 100k event had an 84% finish rate, with 306 of the 373 starters crossing the finish line under the 16-hour cutoff. Anna Fisher led wire-to-wire to win the women’s race in a speedy 9:25:03. Fisher placed ninth overall and became the first woman to crack the 10-hour mark on the modern course, taking 44 minutes off the modern course record. Michelle Magagna claimed second in 9:57:38, and Charlotte Cox took third in 10:06:43.
In the men’s race, Jimmy Elam took over the lead in the early miles and never looked back, cruising to the win in 8:19:57. Elam’s time is the fastest by more than 25 minutes since the race moved to the modern course in 2012. Joseph Roldan earned an M2 finish in 8:41:44, and Conor Callahan snagged third in 8:49:30.

San Diego 100
Staying in California, we shuffle down to Lake Cuyamaca, outside of San Diego, for the 22nd running of the San Diego 100. A total of 126 runners out of 188 starters completed the course in under 32 hours to earn their SD100 buckles. Juan Rocha earned the win in the men’s race, breaking the tape in 19:54:05. Nicholas Kopp was the second man across the line in 20:54:52, and Michael Palo came in third in 21:30:10.
On the women’s side, Laura Liedle raced to victory and snagged a sub-24-hour finish in 23:26:23. Kelly Young placed second in 24:31:47, and Alyssa Malley was third in 25:23:08.

McDonald Forest
Our final stop takes us to Corvallis, Oregon, for one of ultrarunning’s classic Old School Ultras, the McDonald Forest 50K Trail Run. Jessica Quinn ran the sixth-fastest time in the race’s 30-year history to win the women’s race in 4:40:42. Quinn placed seventh overall. Annika Steele earned a second-place finish in 4:53:43, and Theresa Fritz-Endres completed the women’s podium in third in 4:59:07.
William Rice won a tightly contested men’s race in 4:29:37. Connor Smith took second in 4:30:51, and James Holk crossed the line in third in 4:31:59. The 30th running of “The Mac” saw 228 finishers.
