Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms out there, and congrats to everyone who toed the line at one of the 43 events on this week’s UltraRunning Magazine race calendar.

We start the Ultra Weekend Recap in Black Canyon City, Arizona, for the Cocodona 250. While not technically a weekend event (the race kicked off on Monday), the Cocodona 250 provided epic drama throughout the week with both the women’s and men’s races not being decided until the later miles. In the women’s race, Rachel Entrekin moved into the lead at mile 233 winning in 73:31:35 (the second-fastest time in race history). Manuela Vilaseca placed second in 78:04:35, and Mika Thewes, who led for most of the race before being injured in a fall, came back to finish in third (79:30:12).

While there have been several course changes since the inaugural 2021 race, all three of this year’s male podium finishers ran well under the previous course record. Top honors went to Haroldas Subertas who made a late charge to take over the lead with just a few miles to go, winning in 59:50:55. Jeff Browning finished just behind in second (60:19:57) and Arlen Glick claimed third (61:46:57).

In addition to the 250-mile event, Cocodona also included the 125-mile Sedona Canyons and 38-mile Elden Crest races. In the Sedona Canyons, Michael Greer took the win (26:23:11) for the men and Katherine Edwards claimed first for the women (30:21:16 and fourth overall). In the Elden Crest race, Jessica Jones won in 6:50:49 (10th overall), and Ryan Wolff took first for the men (4:39:25). Full results of all the Cocodona races here.

Next, we head to northwest Oregon for the Tillamook Burn Trail Run (50-mile and 50k races). In the 50-mile race, power couple Tyler Green and Rachel Drake both took home wins. Green cruised to victory in 6:51:24 (fourth-fastest course time), followed by Blake Slattengren in second (7:23:15) and Casey Weinman in third (8:02:04). On the women’s side, three runners cracked the top 10 overall led by Drake in first (8:13:56 and fifth overall), Sarah Allaben in second (8:30:55 and seventh overall) and Rachel Hawkins in third (9:08:11 and 10th overall).

In Sunday’s 50k race, Barrett Gray brought home the win in 5:00:17 (eighth overall and fourth-fastest course time), Jana Van Stee placed second (5:32:19), and Jenna Crawford rounded out the podium in third (5:42:53). In the men’s race, Justin Grunewald ran the third-fastest time in course history, winning in 4:12:07. Mino Giunta took second (4:23:02), and Nick Hirdt finished third (4:30:22). Full results here.

Finally, we head to Old Fort, North Carolina, for the Hellbender 100, where the top two men both finished well under the previous course record. First place went to Sondre Stier Thorbergsen who won in 20:00:44, followed closely behind by Kyle Curtin in second (20:05:52). Marcus Welker claimed third in 21:32:59. In the women’s race, Meg Landymore was victorious in 26:54:32 (10th overall), followed by Sarah Hansel in second (27:03:10) and Dalton McCurdy in third (27:37:04). Full results here.

Other results from the weekend include the Quad Rock 50 (Fort Collins, CO), Salt Lake Foothills 50k (Salt Lake City, UT), Galena Sky Trail Races 8-hour (Galena, IL), Hoof it on the Hill 52k (Cherry Creek, NY), Peak Blood Root Ultra 50-mile & 100-mile (Pittsfield, VT), Paiute Meadows 50k (Susanville, CA), Secret Beach 100k & 50k (Gold Beach, OR) and Valkyrie Trail Race 50k (Colorado Springs, CO).
