The third weekend in June featured 58 North American ultramarathons on the UltraRunning Magazine race calendar. In this week’s Ultra Weekend Recap, we dive into results from California, Wyoming, West Virginia and Colorado. Congratulations to everyone who raced this weekend. Broken Arrow Skyrace
We lead things off at Palisades Tahoe in Olympic Valley, California, at the highly competitive Broken Arrow Skyrace 46k ultramarathon, where runners had 12 hours to tackle a rugged two-loop alpine course covering 28.1 miles with 9,000 feet of vertical gain and loss. In the women’s competition, Daniella Moreno improved on her 2025 third-place finish, outrunning a stacked women’s field to take the win in 4:48:48. Sarah Carter finished in second in 4:52:33 and Rachel Drake completed the women’s podium in third (5:02:00).
Eli Hemming won the men’s Broken Arrow Skyrace 46k for the second year in a row in 3:58:01. Noah Williams ran to a second-place finish in 4:09:02, and Cole Campbell came in third (4:09:27).

Bighorn Trail Runs
Our next stop is Dayton, Wyoming, for the Bighorn Trail Runs 100-mile, 52-mile and 32-mile ultramarathons. There were 269 runners who set off on Friday morning to try and complete the challenging out-and-back mountain course in under 35 hours to earn their Bighorn 100 buckles. Top honors in the men’s race went to Bo Shelby, who became the first person in the race’s 25-year history to finish the race in under 18 hours. Shelby crossed the line in a new course-record time of 17:58:03. Ben Quatromoni also shattered the previous course record and now owns the second-fastest Bighorn 100 time ever, snagging a second-place finish in 18:10:31. John Dragon was the third male finisher in 19:48:48.
Leah Handelman won the women’s event in 24:23:35. Holly Adams ran to a runner-up finish (25:37:34), and Amber Hardwig (26:39:24) rounded out the women’s podium in third.

Highlands Sky 40 Mile Trail Run
The 24th annual Highlands Sky 40 Mile Trail Run, held in Roaring Plains and Dolly Sods Wilderness on some of West Virginia’s most rugged and beautiful trails, had an impressive 163 runners cross the finish line under the 12-hour cutoff this year. First place in the women’s race went to 2025 defending champion Jessie Wingo in 7:21:20. In addition to winning the women’s race for the second year in a row, Wingo also placed fourth overall. Katherine Thompson took home an F2 finish in 7:49:14. Sophia Gibby (8:17:13) was third.
Caleb Bowen added to his impressive Highlands Sky 40 Mile Trail Run resume, winning the men’s race in 6:05:39. This is Bowen’s third win at the race and seventh top five finish. Second-place male honors went to Kent Bee in 6:31:51. Anthony Wolosik raced his way to third. 7:05:08

San Juan Solstice 50
Saturday’s San Juan Solstice 50-miler saw Devon Olson break the tape in the men’s event in a winning time of 8:21:17. Gordon Gianniny placed second in 8:51:24, and Carlos Ruibal (8:52:51) finished just behind him in third.
Imogen Ainsworth won the women’s contest and came in sixth overall in 9:34:43. Isabella Poulos (9:46:27) finished female runner-up for the second year in a row and took seventh overall. Katie Kammer was the third woman across the line in 10:20:34.
